Are you referring to the purple ice additive made by royal purple?

Oh cool. Before I bought Watter Wetter I heard Purple Ice was also another alternative for reducing the surface tension of the fluid. Watter Wetter also claimed the 22 deg drop (when run with just water and no antifreeze).

Also the purified water doesn't corrode the radiator or block like regular tap water... Also champ radiators out of Anaheim CA, makes 3-4 row aluminum radiators which will definitely help you stay cooler......depending on the distance of your fan. Thanks for starting this by the way... I'm actually learning some new trick to do on my 49 p18.

I've ran just water and royal purple... If you read the directions it will tell what you can and CAN'T mix with it

  6. I will check the Royal Purple stuff, not to hijack the thread but this is my first car built with a lot of aluminum components (but I won't mention a sacrificial anode in case the OP gets wind of it...) on it.

I have a Champion radiator (for a '65 Chevy) in my Ford, finished very nicely. And I have taken 'stats out of cars in the summer here in the NE when I had over heating issues and it works.

Its purified water that I've ran inside not just tap water.... I went to a 7-11 and bought 4 gallons of water... To avoid the corrosion inside

  11. I can't believe I sat here and read all 8 pages of this. But I'm waiting for a customer to pick up a car and I'm bored anyway so what the hell. I can't believe some of the "suggestions" either -
Retard the timing from 14° to 8° to run cooler? Sorry pal, but retarding the timing will only make it run hotter. Change the cap to a higher pound will make it run cooler? Sorry Again, but that will only raise the boiling point, Not how hot it runs (or doesn't)
Move the temp sender? WHY? yes they read hotter there, so What? the gauge is just an indicator of what's happening, the number isn't all that important. That's why the OE's put H and C, so folks won't fret over numbers.
All these different % of water to antifreeze, in So Cal? What a waste of time. Somehow between "Some" antifreeze and "All Anti Freeze" will work just fine. Seriously, you are nowhere near the ragged edge of hot or cold in San Diego (Side note, did you know that when Hitler was going to rule the world, he had scientists figure out where the best year round climate was? And it was northern San Diego!)
The truth is your car never was running hot! If it wasn't puking out coolant, and it wasn't detonating IT WAS FINE!

By the way, I'm not sure that the cap you has is a coolant recovery type cap - yes they are different in that they let coolant out when you shut it down and the heat rises and the coolant expands, and then they let the coolant suck back in under vacuum when it cools back down. If the overflow bottle never seems to get the coolant dirty, I'd bet you have the wrong type of cap.

Hope these guys show up soon, it's getting late and I want to go home!

Since you are in Florida the best oil is the kind you boil gator meat in. It'll also work in a 350 small block 53 Chevy if it's not too hot out.

    New 180 degree themostat
    New 14# radiator cap
Make sure you have a good overflow system
A good 5 to 7 blade metal fan with the correct pitch for an early 350
A full radiator shroud available at most any junk yard. Measure your 53 Chevy radiator and get something close.
