57snrf i have a Dutch brochure and in Holland the Model B was sold until 1935 ! and they were with suicide doors. No idea if it the V-8 models were later type 40 Fords as they were also available. About the FrenchV-8 i really don't know if they were all 'American' bodies. I know mine has the Original dataplate on the firewall stating it as V-8. Chassis- and motornumber are the same and are only 5 digits, so no *18 * before the numbers..
" is Dougies chassis the one that had the boat-tail body on it......any pictures if it is? Hi Nigel, I have pics somewhere, will dig them out, but you really don't want to see them , 'twas the ugliest body ever to sit on a 32 chassis! Gordon.
No, not demo cars. They are Stock Cars. Stock Car Racing in the UK claimed many of the early Fords because they were powerful compared with our domestic cars, sturdy and cheap. Stock Car racing in the 50's and 60's was a fairly lucrative secondary income for many racers and the crowds at the numerous tracks were huge. There's still a few short oval tracks left but they are dwindling.
Thanks for correcting me. What's the difference between Stock Car and Demolition Derby? When Americans talk about "Stock Car", they certainly don't think about cars smashing against each other on dirt tracks. ;-)
Ha ha, we speak the same the same but different language! Stock Car Racing in the UK has always been a "contact" sport. As in you Nerf, nudge or spin out the car in front of you if you can. It's contact within reason and within the rules. Too violent tends to get you get loaded up and headed for home. Demolition Derby over here is usually the last race of the day amongst the Banger classes. Not old 4 pot cars, Bangers as in old road car, stripped to the bare essentials, made safe with a cage, proper seat and harness that race in classes dependant on engine size and this is full contact racing. If after your heats and final, the cars still running and just about driveable, you send the old girl off in the demolition derby race. Last car running wins.
^^^ Someone with some creativity could add a little blue on that hood and make it match the rest of the car perfectly. Not that there's anything wrong with it like it is but I think I would do it if it were mine. That car has become one of my new favorites.
Glad you like it, Ron! Ideally, I would love to find a hood with matching color... The color was actually quite common on European Deuces; it was called "Cobalt Blue" from what I read. I don't see myself painting the hood - no new paint on this puppy ;-)
OK, not a sedan, but a French roadster with (what seems to be) headlights unique to the local market.
Stock car racing started with old cars, modified and running on dirt tracks. They were a cheap alternative to the race cars that ran on the same tracks. Bill France and NASCAR developed modern stock car racing on paved ovals with late model cars. Dirt track stock car racing AKA jalopy racing Demolition derbies came later when promoters figured out that the customers would pay just to watch cars crash into each other.
I think Tudors need fenders... when they aren't chopped. Just my 2 cents of course! Took this picture yesterday morning, while surfers were enjoying a nice day in Redondo Beach.
I like both looks but can't decide , i have all the fenders and running boards so i can put them on in a weekend. Spring is still far away so i have some time to make up my mind. By the way , your tudor looks real good with fenders.
