Good call, I forgot about that one. I know a few racers that do that event and like to meet them in person and race with them from Texas.

Jim check out Doverdragstrip.com our race is Sept 24-25 2016 next year. Plenty motels, just up the T-way from Jersey. We had it at Island first 2 years then moved to Lebanon Valley Drag Strip and it's been growing ever since.

I cast my net far and wide looking for Internet pictures for these threads. I can't remember where it came from but I knew that you were involved in the car.
    Fantastic Pictures,

Was this one of your groups too?

That is Butch and his green car (before painting) in 1968 after some drunk cop hit his parked car at a cop party in town. That is my rear half of a 61' that I cut up, as well as the passenger door that we grafted on to his car.My 62 in the back ground.

Back from the dead Corvette, the drunk cop story is funny but I bet that it wasn't funny at the time.

I added another picture to my post above.

Now that car is perfect, push bar in back, stance and tires.

For sure not funny at the time. His car was nice. But those cars were only worth about $1000 back then. Easily totaled for that amount of damage. Now you have to figure that we just had put in a 30/30 cam, hooker headers, tossed the t-10, installed the 57 Olds rear, added two leafs to thr rear springs and installed a new m-21 and scatter-shield. As a 283, it was pretty fast for the time. He took all the money the insurance company of the Drunk cop would pay. We did the repair. Butch had enough money left over to paint the entire car Nottingham Green, new Cragers and a new over the counter Z-28 302 engine.

elgringo71, not seeing the added picture.

It sounds like the insurance money made the car better than ever. I bet that that 302 was a screamer once you got it wound up.

    Here is the picture.

That it was, but you did not have to wind it up, he and I were always believers of the short stroke/big bore, high rev school of thought. With 4.56 Olds gears in the back, power was right there. Oh yea, we might have always launched at 6000/7000 rpm like I still do now. :D A 377 came later and faster.

I'm liking the idea of a push bar. That would save me the $600.00 cost to replace the two rear center bumpers on mine. These are both lefts, and cast repro's at that( and the chrome is fair). Something for me to think about. I see where he also has the shut-off switch where the antenna was. I still have that hole in my left rear fender. Something else I'll look at tomorrow. Sting Ray the car does look perfect and the push bar really adds to the look. Something about a black Vette that is just bitchin (not sure about that term but it seems really appropriate with a nice black Vette). I agree with you Baron on adding the push bar. On my present build one part of me wants to go junior stocker but the other side wants me to go CM/SP look and go with a pushbar. The black Vette above really tempts me for sure.

Jim great you have those old pictures to bring back good memories for sure. Good thing you will have time in retirement to drive/race what looks like three cars. Butch will be smiling seeing you are keeping the spirit alive.

Jim D, to be truthful, All the Butch pictures are his. He had me scan them from his car stuff photo album. I kept the original file from when I emailed him that file. He liked to take a lot of pictures. Me, I rarely took any pictures, what was the need?? We all thought none of us would ever see 25 years of age with the reckless, dangerous way we lived our lives. But it was thrill every night. I only have a single picture of my 61 vette, 283/230, 30/30 cam 7500 rpm, power pack head, hooker headers, 4.56 Olds rear, cast iron manifold, 315/15 Atlas tired Car. That car never lost a street race to any 4bb GTO, 390 Ford, Olds 442, Buick GS, any mopar car ( never raced a Hemi on the street, they were pretty rare back then, although there was one in town. But he would not race us, as we always followed him around to different tracks and bested him). We were bad people. Money vs Hot rodders. Rodders won. Picture of the my 61 below.

Yes, plenty of cars to drive , no time lately, but the future looks promising.

PS, the resent postings about my early corvette life , really make me look back and see what a great time it was. Thanks Jim

I think all of us were lucky to grow up in the era we did. Sure is great to see these old pictures and even better the stories that go along with them. Great stuff. We may grow old, but we'll never grow up...

I tell anyone that cares, Mentally I am stuck at 22 year old, why??. At 18 , I had no money, at 22 I had a few dollars and could buy as much beer and speed parts as I wanted. The Motor vehicle stuff Butch and I did only a few years ago would have had driver licenses revoked forever. Luckily, he lived where there are few police.

The constant need to go faster. From B/MSP to C/ Altered. Note how far back the engine is.
