Granny Goose cars were out of Cincinnati by Dave Lewis and Bruce Scott with engines by Ellison Engines. The 61 Corvette and 69 Camaro are still here. They were both at Indy this year.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the Granny Goose cars. It's good to see that they are still around. I also enjoyed seeing your Corvette and learning about it.

Dean I agree thanks for posting the pictures and it is really encouraging to see some original cars saved. Feel free to post any other pictures as well, especially of your cars. Good stuff.

Great picture Utahvette, most owners are afraid to let there corvette get snowed on, much less use it for hauling things and drive it in the snow. :) image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Jason I wonder what the story is with the group of Corvettes.

Here is one of my favorite pics from 1968. There are at least 8 Vettes, a funny car, 55 Chevy, nice Chevelle and is that a 62 Pontiac? Sign says Super stocks. What a great car lot. As I understand the car lot is still there with some foreign makes but looks surprisingly similar (except for the cars of course).

There was a place just like this that I grew up around on Queens Blvd. in Elmhurst Queens NY. I drove my first Corvette a 62 4 speed in 62. I've tried to find out if anyone on HAMB remembers this place and their shop Speed Garage on 51 Ave, but no one on HAMB has replied.

There was a place in Reading, Pa. called Stoudt's. In the 60's they'd have 12 to 18 Corvettes all the time. Great place for a Sat. AM road trip. It's still there and owned by a younger generation.

Doug I am familiar with Stoudts but did not know they went back that far.

Pat I seem to remember your earlier inquiry, too bad no one remembers on the HAMB at least.

We had so many used car lots in my area but none that I remember with a bunch of Corvettes. Good thing I suppose or I would have done way too much dreaming walking through the lot. I have told the story before but I wanted to buy a fawn/fawn 61 low HP Vette with a three speed that had a large hole through the driver's door (like a cannon ball went through it????) at a local lot (probably 68ish) but my dad thought I would drag race it and told me no way. If I had to suffer through a lot like the one I posted above I would have needed shock treatment. Come to think of it with what I drag home today I may be a candidate for some of that treatment now.

  21. Around '65 - '67 there was a Corvette only used car lot on Troost Ave. in KC, Mo. We were freshly licensed and would go down there on Saturdays in my buddies '55 Nomad and pretend we were buyers just to sit in them and check them out. Mostly '56 -62's, a few '54's and an occasional SWC. Candyland!

Those are some great shots, we all wish that we knew where and when they were taken.

Right across the street from the entrance to New England Dragway was a used car dealer that always had dozen or so Corvettes for sale. I remember looking at a black 62, red interior, hard top, 4 spd car that was for sale for $2200.00 in the early seventies. I wanted that car in the worse way. ( I have a picture of it somewhere, but it is in one of my 2000 slides!). I'd stop in there Sunday's after the drags (they'd be closed) just to look at them and sit in some of the cars. Anyway, it might as well as been asking $20K back than for the 62 as there was no way I had the dough to buy it. But it was sure fun looking.
Jim, if you find a good therapist, let me know.

Jim it was a toy store of the time, before that phrase was used. They were just high performance transportation and fun cars, 409 Chevys, 413 and 426 Plymouth, 406 Fords, 421 Pontiacs etc, all full size cars plus Corvettes, T-Birds and a few exotics like a 56 Gullwing Mercedes 300SL I think, a Muntz, Packard Panther, Graham Paige coupe with a Aero car gooseneck travel trailer attached in the rumble seat area. I could go on but it's getting OT.

I'm curious if that's the same place as the sponsor on the front fender of my dad's 'vette... 1956-chevrolet-corvette-front-side-view.jpg

Jim and others, also in Reading, Pa. was a place called Schapell's. Not sure of the spelling. A friend and I went there in Jan. '73 to look at a '63 coupe with factory air, white with tan interior. It was raining/snowing so I stayed inside while he looked. In the showroom was a red '65 SC Cobra with side pipes and gold mag wheels, 5000 miles for $9000. Might as well have been 9 million.

Pat, I did not frequent any toy stores like you reference but I walked around the many car lots in the area that had high performance cars. I knew where all the cars were it seemed. Another car my dad overruled me on was a black 61 Starliner with a 390 hi-po when I was 17. That was just before the 61 Vette I mentioned above. I found a really rusted 61 Starliner at a local car lot and looked at it numerous times. Remember standing there looking at the car like it was yesterday-really wanted it but it was so rusted I passed. A few years ago I finally gave in and bought one-red 390 car but not the hi-po. The car does take me back though to those days when the cool cars got our attention. I can stand 20 feet or so from the car and still stare and shake me head in admiration-something about some cars that were built back then. I got the last laugh though with my dad. My cousin blew his 383 in his 64 Fury on the drag strip and I bought it for $100. My dad could not hear it run since the engine was in pieces and figured it was not a high performance car. I put a 383 in it to start but within a short time I had a 426 wedge in it and my dad heard it run and just rolled his eyes and walked away. He was into cars-just not fast cars and his brother who was the local judge kept lecturing me not to drag race on the street (which I think inspired my dad's "advice" on what I bought). I was a good boy in his district (Redford which is in the Telegraph cruising/racing zone)but had some fun in the surrounding communities.

Chip you may have a point on the sponsor of your dads Vette. What a great looking car.

Doug, it seemed that whenever money was tight with me, I would run into cars that were too good to be true. If we could only have a few do-overs we would all be stylin.
