While repainting my truck I want to have armrests on both doors. Came from the factory with the drivers side as an option. I'll be painting them, so not wanting cloth types. The "hot rod" stuff out there is horrible looking. Really thinking about cutting some from wood and fiberglassing them, but there's got to be an easier way. Whatd yall use? Something that looks right in a 60s truck that can be painted. Looking for ideas!
Gary, only have 1. want 2. Recover is an idea, but so far my upholstery people keep backing out, so the rest of the interior is getting paint, why not paint these is my idea
I only use armrests when my arms need a rest I don't have any. My coupe and truck have leather pulls.
Yep, I had an old belt and cut it into a couple 6-8 inch lengths drilled holes and then enjoyed excellent and strong door pulls for years. I said to myself something like "Chevy can't be the only GM with 6 or 6 1/2 on center dedicated females in the doors."..sure enough talked with sellers on epay as to the on center measurement and found a nice pair. Someday they could be covered in leather and the valence repainted a matching interior color but I just dig them the way they are.
I've used early 50's Ford pickup arm rests before, repops are available and the top half comes off for the covering of your choice. I painted the bottom half, but I suppose you could cover that part also. Gary
I made a set for my truck, and liked them so well, I made another set for my coupe. I used a 7" long piece of 1 1/4 square tube and welded (2) 1/8" x 1" steel straps bent at a 90 degree angle with a hole for mounting at the end of the straps. Those straps were welded onto one of the flats at the ends of the tube and were painted to match the door panel with a spray bomb Rusteloem. If you need a picture, I'll try to get one tomorrow. Gene
those look like my backseat armrests for my poncho , they repop these and the ashtray is nice too . they also make them without the ashtray for the fronts ( 1949-54 gm A bodies )
I found some OT Dodge Dart ones in a wrecking yard that where in great shape not sure yet if I will dye the vynil or re-cover
I found 4 matching rests at a swap meet for a few dollars, that look just like Cosmo49's. I think they are from a 50 Chevy or thereabouts. They mount very easily to a flat panel, and the soft part is small so shouldn't be hard to recover.
