  2. Long time since I saw a '60 Ford. Used to think they were ugly 50 years ago. Now they are my favorite of the '60-'64 big Fords.

I learned to drive on the family '60 Ford. Lots of room to rest your arm when you stuck your elbow out the window. Was there ever a car with thicker doors? Also remember the gunsights on the fenders... Don't see too many nowadays...

  4. My dad bought a 60 Ford wagon when I was a teen. I agree about those thick doors. I don't think I recall any car with doors that thick. That was the first thing that I noticed when he drove it home.

  5. Don't remember if it was Barris? Alexander Brothers? Somebody back in the '60s built a custom that was based on one of the Dodge A-100 pickups-what sticks in my mind is that they used the upper tailgate/rear window from a '60 Ford wagon for the windshield. Maybe somebody knows the vehicle I'm talking about and has pictures. Remember seeing it in Rod & Custom when I was about 14 or 15, back when dinosaurs still roamed the earth.

  6. You're thinking of the Deora by the Alexander Brothers. Google it, you'll find a boat-load of info.

Four quick cuts (roof rails and door sills) would free that '34 Model Y... :p

  9. Two cuts, they use the chassis for door sills. That shell doesn't look that bad. JW

Yellow plate on the front of that Plymouth - hope you got both of them! Parked since '62 at the latest with so little rust - that's one thing I love about CA.

The headlight buckets from those 1960 Fords (and Edsels) are the exact same ones used in 1967 Shelby Mustangs to extend the lights to the longer Shelby front end and those cool grille mounted high beams. . A complete set of buckets and wiring pigtails will fetch about $350. Just in case you spot a set and need some $ for your own build.

This is so sad....... I really cannot explain why, the crushing of Old Cars, the reliance of some to get by, by crushing the Old Cars, or the overall Squalor of the Pics. :(
Thankfully many are found and rescued to a better fate than this.

As far as the guy sees, he's gonna an onion in the beans tonight.
My son in law's dad is the same way. Not smart enough to do easy C/L ing. Just scales and done.

  26. Thankfully scrap isn't paying very well right now. Doesn't pay for the trouble it takes to pull them in.

Friend of 35 plus years , started a junkyard when he was a kid in the late 60's . He says that's it for the junkyard and as soon as the price of scrap goes up the yard gets hauled to crusher . He told me I can have all I want , so in May I'm going to spend 2 weeks there taking Chevy parts. Haven't told the wife yet , but I have 20 acres and a barn to fill . Anything i don't use I will give to other hotrodders

  28. Its a shame that yard cant be opened up to anyone that wants parts for cheap. Even at cheap there would be more money made and then send off whats not wanted. JW

He'd better be glad a license & weight officer didn't pull him over. He'd still be on the side of the road waiting for the cop to finish writing him tickets. That is a stupid scary load.
