These photos were taken by my dad in the late 60's at Numedia Raceway. He did some racing around that time in one of the stock classes and was frequently at Numedia or Green Pines. I have no history on most of these cars, but maybe someone here will know something about a few of them. I'll start off with a few pics of my dads car. I also have a pic of the Bad Banana which was recently restored and shown here on the HAMB. DADS 61 CHEVY WITH GMC TRUCK.JPG DADS 61 CHEVY - NUMEDIA 69.JPG DADS 61 CHEVY DRAG CAR.JPG

Here's the Bad Banana (photo was dated Sept, '67), and a couple other cars that I have no info on. BAD BANANA CHEVY - NUMEDIA SEPT 67.JPG

Here's one of my favorite photos of all time. I may have this printed as a poster to hang in my shop. DRAGSTER AND ALTERED - NUMEDIA 68.JPG

Here's a couple more photos that were taken at Green Pines. This was a lesser known drag strip in central PA. I remember dad telling me that the rules were pretty loose and the drag strip was actually in lousy condition. These were taken in '66.
The last photo in this post of the 409 chevy was labeled "John Zentner".

That's all I have scanned for now. There may be a few others that I'll add later.

Very cool ,local stuff! Thanks for posting them. Dig the Chris Lang wagon, his early effort; had forgot about that one.

  17. Thanks for sharing some PA. racing history. Very cool. I run at media a couple of times a year. It still is a cool place to race.

I can remember seeing Bud Fabuls (spelling?) "Hemi Honker" sitting at Tobias speed shop in Lebanon a number of times back in those days.

It was a 348" that was bored .030.
Someday I would like to replicate that car, but I always have too many other projects that aren't done.

Thanks for posting these, solid gold. The Bad Banana still belongs to a Hamb member. It was his dads.

    Terrific photos. Thanks for sharing.
Numedia looks to be still running and still in the middle of that beautiful wide open country. You should send them some pics.
"The drag strip was built in 1964 and was called Dragways, Inc. Opening day was August 23, 1964.
It then became Numidia Raceway Park and is now called Numidia Dragway".

"Green Pine Dragstrip. Also a 1950’s & 60’s strip, it sits on the south side of the mountain south of Williamsport. The 1/8 mile pad still sits in the woods and had Joe Amato as one of its competitors."

Green Pine now looks to be an extension of a newer home's driveway. How Freakin cool is that; your driveway is essentially a vintage Drag Strip" that you can do power runs on!!! Green Pine.jpg

I was only about 8 years old then, my pop raced at Kel-Rica a 400 foot track near Tamaqua. On occasion we went to Numedia. Some of those cars came to Kel-Rica on big money days. The Chev-wagen was fun to watch. As a kid I didn't realize how little of the VW was used in that car.
