.....I would like to know what a fair price would be to have a rear end housing made shorter?..The rear is apart and off the car....thanks Miller

  2. I'll generally cut one down for 50 bucks if it is one I already got a fixture for. I am thinking that keeping up with the times of going to a Benjamin if that helps.

The cost is generally not in cutting the housing that I the easy part, it is buying the axles that costs. Figure 400 min if you are using off the shelf axles and if you use an oddball length add about 50-100 dollars to that amount.

  4. Had my Avatar rear axle cut down 6" last summer, complete with Moser axles, an 8.2, 60 Chevy rear end. Includes straightening and welding a bung for a drain DSCN9821.JPG .

  6. I was getting estimates to do housing and axles for an 8" from $800-$1200 (from 2 places).

We charge $150.00 to cut and reweld housing to the dimensions you supply.
That is JUST cutting the housing tubes to remove **x inches,
and reweld your original ends back on.

The one pictured was around $650.00.
That was for completely rewelding the back cover,
rewelding the ****py replacement tubing job.
Narrowing, bracing the back for drag racing,
    installing new leaf spring perches.
Welding on new Strange Eng. ends.
    Cleaning ***embly.

This is done in a precision fixture/jig and the end bearings are
guaranteed to be in precise alignment with the center section bearings.

Any mounts, braces or other stuff is extra.
