Could you run one double groove water pump and a fan mounted off the generator stud?
Would probably require the use of an 8ba timing cover and distributor though.

Ya I was thinking generator double pulley. But the water pump would give me some distance foe a belt

An adjustable idler gives more flexable belt options.

This link is more supercharger oriented but it may be interesting reading and might generate some ideas.

  4. Think ahead if your going to use double grove water pump. Unless your happy adjusting belt with fan moving sideways you'll need an adjuster/ideler of some kind. Personally I'd try to use the fan and it's up and down movement for belt adj. How about a shot of the front of your motor and lower frame clearance? That would help us Arm Chair guys.

20160118_201402.jpg So I think if I use a double grove generator pulley. And remember position the fan pulley and find a super small belt I could make it work. The belt is my problem it will be so short

Best looking 32 roadster I've seen....just remember, hot rodders of past didn't want to leave their cars in primer or "patina", most wanted a slick new paint job, but couldn't afford it on a teenage salary.
Leave it or paint it, either way it is awesome.

You could run a reverse rotation fan and a pair of small spur gears to drive the fan? Lol

Do you have enough room to get a belt on and off the crank pulley? Switch to a 42ish crab style distributor will give you more room( and a simpler plug wire set up)

This is a stock setup for dropping a 59ab into a 33-34 frame. I thought about cutting x brace out and moving the motor back.but then it just snow balls and I end up with a different car. But the plan is to run this gem when I make the fan work!

Now that is cool right there !

and it should get you closer to a fan. One thing you might look at is a narrow belt set up off a later flatty. I put narrow belt pulleys on one I did years ago. It was a bunch of screwing around but it made it easier to package everything. I ran an offset genny and later pumps with the bypass tubes welded closed and ground off. And narrow belts use less power to turn, although you have to run them tighter to prevent squeal.

  11. Your on the right track Not to just start changing everything. I could have done the same thing with my motor but then it wouldn't be the motor I got from a very Old friend. I see the issue with the lower pulley. I have a feeling your a pretty savvy guy so this really shouldn't be to tough to get done. I hobbled out to my Toy Box and looked at stuff. The fan blade I have is wide belt like I wanted. The blade is 18" wide and from front of blade to center of belt grove is 2-1/2". If you can mount this style blade on your intake, you can get it done driving it off the fan with a second belt. I would use the 35-37 Gen pulley with the fan mount hub that's part of it. Any 2 belt pulley's Ford made were Cast Iron and stacked the belts close as possible. They were only used on the large 1-1/2" and up and not on all of them. I don't think it's worth tracking that stuff down. I'd build a double pulley from Ford parts like I did on my Lower pulley and set the spacing I need to line up with my Fan and if needed I'd space my Fan out to clear the dist. and center it in Rad core. I don't see it being a Challange or an Issue.

I have been collecting for a bit so I have this small pulley I think I am going to machine out the center then tig it to the other pulley

  13. I'm sure you've thought this out. Is the placement of the second grove going to be exactly where you need it to line up with the Fan pulley? Personally I'd mount the fan prior to welding anything to be sure. Tig welding on Cast Iron means you'll be using Silicone Bronze, right?

Ya I have welded cast before with it and seems to work out. I also looked at the double groove generator pulleys. Personally the fan pulley looks easier to move but who knows at the moment I am not to that point yet. Figured I would get it running then start to play with it. Hence the lovely six volt fan. Lol. I did go with the 6 volt positive ground lol. Not sure it was good decision yet but my buddy Marion made a good point might as well go all the way. Sadly it will all take a little time do to family work and school but I have been making progress! Pist-n-Broke I am glad you piped up I always respect other builders. Knowledge and comments.

  15. I enjoy pitching in once in a while. Good to see progress being made. Can't wait to get healed up so I can get back to my own stuff. Now that I know that other fan is just a Temp I'll slip back into the shadows.

OK here's a quick update! Due to school and a sick family I have been a little slow. But I did a little modifying on a 37 horn button for my 39 banjo. And started wrapping my seat cushions with dark brown leather. Then dropped the floor down on the seat. I just wedged the x brace and braced it back in so at first glance it looks like a stock x brace. To get the OG bomber trainer seats to fit it was pretty tight so I actually ended up cutting down the middle of the hump to get it spot on. I did a couple awful selfies in it to give you tho full effect of how much it dropped me. Don't mind my ugly mug.

What a great read. Leave it 'As is' and drive the doors off it after making sure it is safe enough to have fun in. Lots of people try to emulate those genuine cars but never really succeed. That is the real deal and an awesome find.
