Yes it's a vet, 1943 Army Air Corp/Signal Corp Chevrolet 4x4. The plan is to make it a daily driven Expedition Vehicle with a****mins 6BTA with disc brakes, a tilt/raising cab painted OD green honoring my great uncle (an island hopping Marine) and all other vets. The style will be as if it was the red headed loved adopted stepchild of a motor pool mechanic with all the parts he could scrounge up from the wrecks around him.

I love the theme! Maybe the truck equivalent of a bomber's "young lady" painted somewhere... Or trench art shifter, dash controls, etc... Why a tilt cab? Will the 6BTA be under the seats? Things would be far less complex if the motor were in the stock position w/o tilt or mounted further back and using that sweet BED tilt to access the motor. (Mine tilts and it's been a challenge).

Start a build thread and keep us posted on this sweet project!

    HiYa Rick,
As the kid who cried when he saw the Memphis Belle sitting on flat tires with broken plexiglass just rotting behind a chain link fence at the Memphis Fairgrounds (Thank God they restored her now!), I think a pin-up red head is in the future! Not enough room for the 6BTA under the bed with 4X4 and approx 23" from crank centerline to valve cover top..unless I mount it too low to fit under the bed. After how long it took me to remove the cab this weekend and access to all the linkages and what not, I want to make it easier in the long run and pay the price in the beginning. I will start a thread soon.

Good on you Rob, Lots of miles, lots of smiles no doubt. I think driving these trucks is the best part of owning them.

Daddio, is that truck really as straight and rust free as it looks? If so, you are way ahead in the game.

Hurry up with that T........I wanna see this built! LOL

Yessir it is. Cab corners have a TINY amount of rust, won't need whole corners, just a little welding and cleanup. One has a hole the size of a dime.

  9. These 3 Trucks are were I got my Inspiration. The stance of this 1940 Chev is the coolest,

not much difference here, but I really liked his mirror brackets

When I saw this 1939 tow truck with Pick UP truck fenders, I knew that this was for me

My 39 Chevy COE is far from the photo you see in my aviator, but that is my goal. A H.A.M.B.er saw a photo of my red-rust-bucket & with Photoshop, he designed what he thought would look good & sent me a photo. He then offered to change it to what I wanted it to look like. So I took a few months on the computer looking at other COE's & found these three. Then added my personal touches, BlueWheels/Whitewalls/Sunvisor/Spotlights/Exhaust Stacks & Color, then I contacted him &... WALLA,
    original 39 Chevy TowTruck------as of a year ago---------maybe tomorrow, I wish

The Photo Shop photo was the best incentive I could have had to keep me motivated

Man I thought you were driving it already!:D

  11. I wish! This is my first build from scratch, & I'm slow but steadily doing something on it. I'm probably backwards on a few things, & some I find later that I half to do over. A-lot of things I over-think & make it harder on my self. I wish I could keep it simple but what fun would that be?
Tilt Cab is done, suspension is done, now the running gear is all there. So now I'm getting the frame ready to seal & paint. Then it goes back to-gather for good...

Correct, if I get the chance to do another one I think I'll follow your game and try a 4WD.

For the guys who like the vintage drivetrain stuff, I have a perfect early Watson/*****er 2 speed auxillary transmission.
a small one, it was manufactured for Watson, by*****er before they bought Watson out. it had recently been serviced by a driveline shop before I got it.
I m not interested in low offers, it will take $700 to get me to part with it. located in N Texas.

  19. As nobody is posting anything I thought I would, just fitted my home built slide on pop top camper to my COE, Ballarat Swap meet here we come and I get to sleep on a decent bed.
