Can't remember if I have posted this before. This is Mike Ulrey driving Jim Burtners T-Bolt at Indy in the late 60's. Does anyone remember this car or know anything about it? I have spoken to all the Ulreys and to all the T-Bolt experts and the car is a mystery. Anyone know Mr. Burtner from the Dayton Ohio or Southern Indiana area? 11006439_1544004292541520_7550306018221485746_n.jpg

Is this a picture of Carole Cox at Lions? Lloyd's and Carole's son, Steve recently reminded me that, during the early '60s, NHRA refused her entry at Indy on the basis of gender. Times have changed.

Notice the hot dogs and marshmallows on the rollbar....Ivo, ever the showman, did this when he was racing Romeo Palamides jet car at San Gabriel...he actually rolled to the line and left with the stuff still mounted behind him...it blew off on the run............I think he actually got to the lights before the jet car did (I forgot if Glenn Leasher or Archie Liederbrand or someone else was driving the jet, or maybe Jet Car Bob Smith???)

I think drag racing needs more showman like Ivo
Many guy's used to go to the drag strip just to see "Jungle Jim and Pam" and today I can't think of anyone who even comes close to the show they used to put on for the fans.

  16. These are the two diggers stuffed in that clear-sided Dodge hauler with Ivo's '68 perched on top in post 48132.

Bobby Langley, not sure where, but Bobby was never hesitant about putting his car on a trailer and towing a long distance.

Gene O'Tanger, from Amarillo, TX, blown Buick A/C, ran at the '60 NHRA Nationals

More Bobby Langley, again not sure where it is, but given the pit expanse, it could be Bakersfield, maybe '60 or '61? One of the runs I never forgot at Bakersfield was Bobby Langley vs. Bob Haines in the Haines & Cross fuelers. Both were sideways at halftrack, but neither lifted, both smoked the tires for most of the way to the lights...I don't remember who won.....but what a race!

Ted Gotelli's T/F TE -440. I think that this is the car that Bud Barnett was badly burned in at Half Moon Bay, running a fund-raising meet for Rod Stuckey, who was also badly burned at the same track. The story I heard was that after the fire, Ted cut this car up...though there was a later Gotelli twin-Chrysler TE-440...don't know if it was this one or another??

Fred Sorensen, AA/FR...before the fuel coupes and hot roadsters were combined into fuel altered. Fred was from the Sacramento CA area...

No ID on any of them...Fiat is clearly a steel bodied car...might this be in Australia or Great Britain, given the "Good Vibrations" car in the background?? (from jaytee: Santa Pod England.. High Fever Topolino and Benbow and Fullerton model T which later became the blown altered Tee Rat on the previous page post 48142, here's a shot from 1971

Read his story "TV Tommy Ivo, Drag Racing's Master Showman." Written by Tom Cotter. It's really well done.

That's my picture I took at Indy in 1971. I think the kid was Bob Parmer's little brother. The car is Charlie Hill's "Bad Habit".
