History Are Phaetons actually Traditional Hotrods??

The first two pics in Post #12 do it for me! Perfect stance, perfect patina, you can't tell when it was built, timeless!

 

The pitman arm/drag link on this car always drove me bonkers.

Here's one I started a long time ago and languished until just lately. I set the body on the frame and didn't like the stance/proportions at all. I just finished completely revamping the front and rear suspensions to lower it, as well as the motor mounts. I think I'm going to like the new results a lot better than this.

 

Of all the cars and styles I wouldn't do one as a rod. It's just me and my opinion, and I get it, truly I do and see why some would. My eye likes nearly any phaeton to be stock/restored. Maybe it's my Packard/restoration background that drives this thought. So many examples posted in this topic are really kool cars but it doesn't change my mind about it. This topic also brings to mind a Model J Duesenberg Derham Tourster (what we might call a sport phaeton). It raced one of the Marx Bros' supercharged Mercedes with it after it was fitted with a supercharger of it's own. Hot rod? You tell me (pics from a google image search)...


Word around the campfire is that the Duesy won (go figure) before the 1st lap and that there was $25K in total bets on the race. Even the Hollywood elite wasn't immune from the hot rod affliction.

 

Ofcourse they're traditional, as we have seen up to this point. Here's mine on a strict diet of only period speed parts n' pieces, in its previous incarnation:

They made a model of Hot Rod magazines "Coke machine" mid seventies Ford van, and Farrah Fawcetts custom vette...just sayin'...

 

I love 'em! Old man hot rods or not! My '34 tub will have a euro trash flair similar to a Lagonda!

 

The 70s were a strange time and should be erased from history.
