    You guys got a 5500 r.p.m. Performer, to pull till 6400 r.p.m. ?

How much more hp. do you think was left with a 6500 r.p.m. intake ?

...rumor has it that this car will be at this year's Meltdown event,...hope so, lots of different cars going to show up.

  6. The TA Performance SP1 single plane is 35+, I think the old B4B is probably 10-15. The carb pad is higher, further forward, and nearly as big inside as the ported Performer. The chamber n these heads is much like a late LS7 so timing should be optimum around 34-36. The big chamber & gasket overhang on the small bore, has it pretty pissed off. The new spec big block class is 470". We're gonna do a 4.310 x 4.000 Buick with these heads, hyd. Roller and SP1 intake.

  7. image.jpeg image.jpeg Here is pic of the Performer, the primaries are in the middle. This goofy intake only responded to jetting on the primary side of the carb.

  8. Another thing about two planes in general, they like BIG carbs! The two planes have small plenum volumes, therefore really strong carb signal. I think the bigger carbs are like a bandaid to increasing plenum volume & you find out n the Dyno, that stagger jetting works well too.

Got some dumb questions to ask, but maybe I can learn something. ( secondary side not responding to jetting )

Is that a Quick Fuel Carb ? What c.f.m. ? And is it got Q.F.34-105 billet metering blocks ?
( Only primary metering block has provision for power valve )

The reason for asking is because I started tuning my Q.F. 1050 last ( with the power valve blocked )
Kept jetting up to 93s square and air/fuel ratio improved untill about 14 to 1 ?
Thought OK a big carb needs lots of gas to mix. Went all the way to 99s, NO CHANGE ?

Was in the middle of this mess during the meltdown.

Called Q.F. and the tech guy said put the power valve back in and that worked, With the power valve in
got the primary side rich enough for a 12.5 to 1 mix. ( Took me to Oct to figure this out. )

It seems to me that 34-105 metering block is only able to flow up to 93 jet size? ( with out power valve )
and secondary side has none.

Not giving up on this carb yet. Might try another primary block on the secondary side with power valve to square jetting.

    What do you think?

Hey Norb maybe you just cant pull a good enough signal at that carb could be different boosters may help

Well I was thinking annular would help so now we have to think what else could be the problem.
I don't know your combo but for a 1050 it must be pretty stout or I would not think about a carb that big.
    Thinking out loud
    Good spark and timing
    Good fuel pressure
What is the vacuum at WOT
    What do the plugs show

Going to base line this spring with my old tested and perfected bracket carb, a ( Proform center ) 3310 vacuume secondary 750 . I know that it always ran good in hot weather, but not as quick.

I agree the 1050 may be too big.

Can the air bleeds be changed to help
Did you try that or make sure they are are clear. I would always see them Pro Stock guys running a rod through those.
Do you have a spacer 4 hole or open

Yes changed inner air bleeds, also played with idle feed restrictions, the last two passes on Oct 10
showed perfect air/fuel ratio but the car ran slow 60 ft and m.p.h. ?
Had to jet richer in the front, because secondary block was peaked at 93s
without a power valve. ( Would like to square jets )

Poor performance could have been caused from bend axle tubes, we will see the in spring.

    Got a open spacer.

    I have a open spacer.

Think I will try adding a power valve in the secondary side ( another primary Q.F. metering block )
    to square jetting.

So are you running this on a 4150 flange intake?

  24. I was gonna ask if you tried smaller high speed bleeds to increase the booster signal, but looks like Salty already mentioned that. It could be that the metering block itself is a restriction, and opening up the power valve channel fixed that. I would be suspect of fuel delivery to the carb too. I'll ask around about the metering block possibly being a restriction in itself. Our Quick fuel and Book carb both responded best to primary jetting because of the screwy carb pad location on that manifold. We were at 94 on the primary and 88 on the back. The quick fuel made 6 hp more at peak, but only because it had standard boosters and flowed slightly more air than the Book carb with annular boosters that hamper air flow. I'm confident that the Book carb with standard boosters would out perform the Quick fuel. As it was, we used the Book base plate on the Quick Fuel as it was a bit more air flow friendly. We ran out of time so we couldn't swap in Books plates etc., or have him change out the boosters

What do you think about running 2 primary metering blocks, so 2 power valves could be used
to square jetting on my intake.
