It's definitely the Ollie Hines Brewster Grilled 34 Ford 5W, it's the front, rear fenders that were originally on a like bodied car, but not a Ford along with the hood. Remember even all these parts were thicker gauge than a Ford.
That is the trivia question.

Very good! It took me a very long time to realize that these were actually Hupp parts that actually bolt on a 33/34 Ford body. The reason I realized that is because of the position of the wheel opening and the way the wheel sat in them.
Here I had a Hupp W-417, I'm thinking that the fenders were pretty stylish and that they resembled an Auburn Speedster/Phaeton. As I stared at it a little longer, I remembered seeing a story in SRM back in the 80's about the Ollie Hines 34 Ford 5W Coupe. That car has some unusual body work and It had the front wheels sitting really forward in the front of the chassis, the rears had a very nice tapper that made the Ford body look longer, Hupp stylists designed them this way in order to make their lower priced W-417's look like one of the higher priced models.
Ollie was a sharp cookie as using the Hupp hood w/cut down hood sides due to his channel job,Hupp front & rear fenders with slight mods to the fender tie area to bring it to a point, then the reshaping of the where the front of the running board mounts, along with running that Brewster Grille, he'd have himself a pretty unique custom Ford that in reality was actually styled fenders and hood wise by Hupp. The Hoods side vents resemble Cad parts.
That whole Chev-Olds and 28-30 car story I believe was passed on from the story in SRM.
Hence the reason for the trivia quiz.

 

Kev: The 5 window is a Ford body, correct? While the 3 window is actually a Huppmobile, is that right? I saw a thread here a while back about them using Ford bodies.

 

When I got home last night I looked up my 1955 Aug issue of Hot Rod for the article on Ollie's car. Terrible write up that repeatedly called the grille "foreign" and even then Ollie stated he used parts from 25 different cars. The current owner had the car in the Gilmore Museum display and the show card stated the fenders were made from 6 1938 Chevy fenders. The misinformation continues. I agree the hood side vents look like 1/2 Cadillac vents.

The bodies are actually Murray Body Company Stamped - Built. The Hupp used the cabriolet body with a 3W stretched roof section, closed car windshield and roll down rear window mechanism and window frame. The doors used cabriolet window moldings. Hupp used this body in 1935 as well it was designated W-517.

originally built in '58 ....... had 1958 newspapers stuffed behind the door panels when I got it ..... STILL HAS the '58 interior in it ........

I remember flat towing it home with with a mini truck and no towing lights, white knuckled it all the way home. I got in the backyard and Jake comes by for dinner, looks it over and says "his worst one of the 4 that he bought back in 71 didn't look this bad".
Well this was 1996 and I paid a whole lot more than the $50.00 that he paid for that worst one that he bought out of San Gabriel, where I grew up.
I'm not sure if he remembered what Don Prieto said right after the CA.Kid was aired, "The Price Of Ford 3W's Just Trippled Over Night"!

I appreciate that you like it, its a flatty powered 34 that really hasn't changed since back then.
It was a great day on El Mirage there with Dave Lukari's Ardun A Modified andTom's or Mike's T-Ster.
