I have a 64 falcon with a 260 and a cruise o matic that I bought a few weeks ago and I have just now gotten around to really looking the car over and I found this odd looking reservoir mounted on inner driver fender it appears to me as being a remote reservoir for he power steering but the pump has a reservoir on it with what looks like the same filter in it. Hopefully someone know more about.
Did this car originally have A/C? That looks like the inner fender mounted P/S reservoir that came on my A/C equipped '64 Galaxie. Still this begs the question... Power steering on a Falcon? Oh well! -Dave
could be the steering pump was replaced, and whoever did it left the original remote reservoir? but yeah, that's what it looks like http://www.ebay.com/itm/231835750122?
The power steering is desirable for it's faster ratio, so if you remove the linkage power assist you have good steering.
The old Ford linkage type power steering is good for preserving the underside of the car, it's a good challenge to keep it from leaking.
Yep, soak down the underside of the car with the used oil from the last change and go for a drive down a dusty road. Had an OT Granada, 302 & A/C. Thought it had power steering, but it didn't and drove great. -Dave
I spent some time fixing one on a 64 falcon....also did a similar one on a 59 retractable...and a 55 T bird...I know way too much about old ford power steering.
