    Just picked up a 30' model a ... Hoping to knock the grandpa off it soon.

    Nice little "A". What are the plans? Flathead V8? Early Caddy or Olds? 283 Chevy? Hemi?

    Haha... it's not that nice. Want to do some b wheels and drop it down. Need to do some digging to find out what is the best way to get it lower. This is the look I was thinking. Still want to stay with a straight axle tho.

    I have a 48' ford flathead.... might do that at a later date.

    Someone posted a real good thread not long ago. He used different spring and axle combos in front and different springs in back with photos of all the changes. Do a search for Model A lowering you'll come across it. Well worth it.

    '48 is a good year flathead. That's what I've got in my '34 pickup.

    Congrats - lowering that low will involve a lot , including brakes upgrade. but, will look Cool.

    That's what I am afraid of. . The brakes have already been done. It has 39' brakes and trany installed. Two very +'s

  15. If you've got juice brakes and that gearbox in already, you're most of the way there already. Mechanical brakes make dropping difficult, not the juice.

    Good looking car, although those old amateur restorations can hide alot. You just need to add a dropped axle, reverse eye front spring and a T rear spring and you'll be set.

    Since you already have the juice brakes what 31pickup is saying is about all you need to do.

    that's a sweet place to start. a little drop on the suspension, lower the headlights, loose the whitewalls and drive it ;)

    I would just say the "old" ones. :eek:

    The fenders are great. The floors are good for the most part. Weak in a 4"x4" area. Looks like there is some old body work. .. but all in all. A solid car.

    It already seems low? The wheels are at least 19 inchers by the looks, so a simple upgrade to 16 inch wheels would get you down close, and then the t spring idea, or even a reverse eye main for the A pack would get it the rest of the way.

    If you were going fenderless, getting it low would be a whole 'nother ball game. I haven't done final mock up on mine yet, but any lower, the torque tube angle would not work, but for you, it won't be a problem.

    Edit: Or are you looking to keep your 19 inch wheels? A little more work, but would be cool for sure.

    Think I am going to go with some 16"s... probably do that first and then reevaluate the altitude.

    Ron Brown has a great thread on here about lowering an A- he did his 2 door Sedan, and even "3wlarry" likes it! It looks right on- check it out.

    Finally getting out into the garage to get a list of what needs to be done. Had no idea that the front spring was so flat. I definitely think I am going to follow Ron Brown's final lowering technique. This is the brakes and steering I have now. If I get some 32' spindles will those brakes work on them? Also. Is there a upgrade that I can get for that steering box? I used,a saginaw 525 on my 36' pickup. But trying to keep this one s little more traditional.

    I got a 1930 tudor. had stock drivetrain. put juice brakes on, besat hing I ever did, purist hate it but I like being safe. Installed org Warner t-5 overdrive trans. great move. converted to 12 volts and installed a 110 hp mercruiser 4 banger motor and the 5 speed. Really a blast to drive around now. Problem is I have two extra motors, the 110mercruisermotors Im trying to sell. I have them listed on this site I believe. also got the 16 inch wheels. They were on it when I got it. Sounds like a cool project. yruhot

    Wow, sounds like a great project that you have as well. So funny your motor and trany choice. My other project is a 36' ford pickup that I put a 153 chevy and t5 in. Great combination.
