Technical Electrical problem that is soundly beating me

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ArtGeco, Feb 16, 2016.

  1. The electronic ones are fine if you get a good one; it's the crappy quality control on the cheap offshore units that's the problem. Ford even went to the electronic ones as OEM in the late 70s which is where the design came from. Anytime I can pick up a OEM Ford electronic one used, I do because they rarely fail.

Exactly. I also do the same. I will always pick up a NOS ford regulator. Regardless of whether I need one or not.

The one I posted is chrome but they are available painted from Jegs. One caution though, these are 100 amp units compared to the probably 35 amp original. You shouldn't use the original wiring. It is too small to handle the current and could cause a fire. Connect it directly to the battery or starter solenoid with at least number 6 wire. Your amp meter might not work as the alternator wires were usually run through them. Install an idiot light or volt meter instead.
