Looks good Dan. I was skeptical at first, but it looks nice.

 

Been busy with life, haven't done much of note to the 40. I decided to mock up some sheet metal for inspiration, and I'm very pleased with the stance.
Also, traded for a nicer decklid.

 

Yes, the stance looks great! hope you can drive it that low!

 

Your '40 is really taking shape. I think you are wise to plan for a/c since your family is going with you. You will like it for sure, believe me. My '40 has a shroud, 16" fan and clutch, and A/C with a 300 horse 327. It runs very cool with or without the air. Radiator is a Walker for A/C. It is made for cruising with family in comfort. Good luck P.S. I like your car's stance.

 

The American Autowire kit I used in the '40 had a low-pressure brake switch in the box. Seems to work just fine.

Thanks for asking @Luckey7! Not much to report, and life has been busy....

In the last couple of months I bought a MIG.

I think it was a good value for the price, seems to work well once dialed in, and my welding friends say it works just fine. So I've been spending what little spare time I have burning wire on scrap, just to get a feel for it.

This happened too. A little rust in the frame rail. I cut a hole, now I need to make a patch. The driver's floorboard and rocker is cut and fit and ready to weld in, but this frame section is under the rocker so I need to patch this spot before I can weld in the floorboard. It's all new territory for me, so it's a snail's pace.

 

The dash looks good and that's how I repaired a couple of spots in my frame. That's tuff; working on the frame with the body still there. You might want to pull those outrigger body mounts and inspect for rust and pitting while your there.

 

Some progress this weekend. @CB_Chief gave me a hand and I got the frame patched, welded up a crack, and finally we mounted the fuse panel. Mind you, this is the first time I've welded on something that wasn't practice or scrap.

Your SO CLOSE! I bet with a good pair of long weekends (maybe three or four). You could have that car back on the road. Not much left besides floors, plumb them engine wiring and bam driving. Don't forget to wear your goggles!

I just can't bring myself to cut a hole in my right fender for a second tail light. So I got these dual filament Harley lights to bolt on the bumper guards for tail, stop and turn signals. Stole the idea from Lee Pratt's 40 coupe.

Anyone have any tips or insight how to trim this tool tray to fit a sedan? EMS makes it to fit a 40 Coupe but says it will fit a sedan with "some trimming"

 

Id like to know that too, as I need to replace the tool tray in my 39 sedan, trying to decide if I should buy one or just make one if I have to cut it into ten pieces to make it fit.

 

And I thought I had some rust issues! I have no idea what you need to do to make that panel fit but I hope you show us what it takes. Good to see you are busy working on your cool sedan!

Dadgummit I thought I already had started a reply... Anyway I can't help you with your fitment issue since I have never done a sedan tool tray. I did find this little thread. Give EMS a call and see if they have any instructions or ideas.

As I said in my lost post , I thought I had rust issues! Dan I hope you take some pictures and share the process of installing the tool tray. Good to hear from you.

Thanks, I'll give EMS a call today. My car really isn't that rusty, but the places it does have rust it's bad!

When I looked at this car I didn't see half of the rust, due to inexperience, and if it was in better shape, it would have been out of my price range. So, I'm looking at it like I'm getting an education on rust repair.

Edit: called EMS, he gave me a few pointers, but over the phone, and it was kinda vague. From the sounds of things I might have a tough road ahead getting this thing to fit right since I am a novice.

 

Dan maybe you should start a new thread with your question. Maybe someone that is not following your thread will see it and offer some help.

Hey Dan, The 39 Guy had some good tips in his post re: marking out your centreline of the new section to be fitted and checking it against the centreline of your existing trunk. That will show you how much metal needs to trimmed at both ends.
Are you going to use an angle grinder with a slitting blade or tinsnips. If you have never used tinsnips I suggest you get left and right hand ones. Always cut so the lower blade is on the side that you want to trim off. If you don't use them that way you will distort the piece you want to keep!!

Nice build Dan! Mine started the same way, the more I dug the more rust I found. Being a MN car however , it could have been worse. I like the direction your going... Don't paint it
