  2. The blown hearse ran out of Bristol, Connecticut. If I'm not mistaken the car was owned by Dickie Doyle. Supposedly it is being restored. the car ran with the Drag and Run guys.

BOO not Bristol....... Terryville is right next door those Bristol guys were our sworn enemies  Don't you remember any of the "Rumbles" we used to get into at the good old Bristol plaza before going racing on the not yet opened RT 84?

Yes Dickie Doyle was partners with Willie Exstrum (spelling?) That is where the D&E automotive comes from.

Willie later went to work in Stephens Pontiac when it was on the boulevard in Bristol and campaigned a nice OT Firebird stocker that did very well. He was a lot lot of guys "go to man" for tuning cars for drag racing.

Lots of info on it on the Dover website www.doverdragstrip.com/home.htm
seems that may not be working try this one http://www.doverdragstrip.com/phpBB3/

Loud bang let me add this Bill Colman and his father Bob have the car and are restoring it to hopefully bring to the Dover Nostalgia Drags in Sept at Lebanon Valley. Billy races his primed Austin with the NETO group. Your right a ton of info on the site.

Powers and Riley at Cordova, Illinois - this car was put together in 6 days to replace their Fiat which barrel rolled the previous week at Cordova.

His coupe ran in about 1962 and the Willys coupes had been the "normal" body style for several years by then.
Most teams had "moved on" long before this time.

  10. That little coupe was competitive until 62 or 63. Joe ran a blown SBC of undetermined size. It was a full on street car that went racing. Full interior, mufflers and electrical system. When the coupe started getting beat by lighter cars, Joe pulled the engine and ran it with Bones and Gary Dubach in Gary's 33 Willys. Then Joe built a Chrysler, and got his name on the door.

Way cool - Powers and Riley built the chassis for the car discussed in thread below - and the P&R car in you photo appears to be Chrysler wedge powered as well (although blown) can you verify?

    Thanks!

Read the thread you posted - nice pictures - the car did have a Chrysler wedge like the Fiat had. There was a cousin of Harleys who was a high school shop teacher here in Princeton, Illinois where I live, met him when we were both involved in dirt track stock cars, our mutual drag racing interests only briefly discussed. Wish I could be of more help. One name that came up in your thread was "Mauer", the team Mauer and Willis ran a TF car with Chrysler wedge power - had a Garlits chassis.

Thanks ttwomotor - it indeed is the same person, Noel Mauer from Dubuque, painted the "Wild Wedge" and ran the TF with Bob Willis, among other noteworthy pursuits - there's a nice thread on here on Mr. Mauer and his cars.
