I found a core that will work, with modification. Its for a 79 ElCamino. I just got it in and drove it tonight. I will post some pictures on my other thread when I get a chance. I would prefer to recore, but have no money. I'm only 40 bucks into my heater right now. Have you looked into modifying a 4 lever control. Looks like one could be modified and attached to the 2 lever facia.

  6. still waiting for my heater core to be finished... one pipe was crushed and it has been leaking for awhile... may be a good time to pull the seat out and get it finished... have carpet to install and new sill plates...

Got the heater core rebuilt ( Corvette Core was used) trial fitted it to back into the my spare heater box... fits really nice... may need to bent the pipe a bit... The blower doesn't slide over one of the pipes very well... just need to be careful and I think it will be ok... My Saturday project !

  8. So I'm thinking of adding a shut off valve inline to my heater hose ( heater inlet ?) Good or bad idea ? Just wondering during the summer month when the heater isn't used by pass it... car runs cool... just wondering ... Thank you

Rob, a manual shut off valve is always a good idea. Go for it. I've been following your posts regarding the need for a two lever heater control panel. I've never seen a two lever panel. I thought they all had four levers except my 64 Biscayne which has three. After a vintage air installation in my 63 BelAir with four levers only three were utilized. The fourth lever I used for an anti theft device. Could you use a three or four lever panel and only use two levers? Or is the two lever panel not as wide?

The factory had shutoffs on the Intake manifold. Petcock style available from Napa Etc. I have an inline valve off a Ford truck on mine.

  11. just want to keep the original look to interior... The four lever will work I've been told... The recirculation heaters came on bottom line cars.. Biscayne , El Camino... But I guess most people stepped for the deluxe heater... The two lever style for recirculating heater is hard to find...

I had the deluxe heater in mine initially until I found one on EBay. It worked fine, with 2 dead levers. No one noticed but me, and it bugged me.the switch plugged in the same. My 59 came with a deluxe heater initially, which was rusted out. By now I have changed the wiring harness with a used under dash harness, so I don't know if there is a difference in the speed control wires or not. I only have one fan speed.

  13. so are you running the shut off on the inlet side of the heater hose to the core ?

  14. the panels are the same size... I like the idea of a anti-theft on one lever if I just use a deluxe control

  15. the recirculating heater temp is controlled by the fan speed per the repair manual will need to read it again... I will the recirculating heater looks to me way easier to R & R !

The recirculating heater dash controls...thought I would post a picture.. Have got
a lot of PM regarding what they look like... Here you go... The deluxe is the more common assy
and is 4 levers, while this two lever is a rough one to find...(well so far !)

  19. well got the heater assy R & R on Saturday... that was easier than I thought it would be... still need to find a useable heater control... I really don't want to put a deluxe control in the car, so still looking for the recirculating controls...
so now have the seat out and getting recovered ( will post some pictures when Bruce my interior guy gets it done)
New carpet is here and sill plate covers... need to finished coating the floor also
