Yes, December 19th already. This year flew.

Nothing really substantial for updates, I have been working on the doors, hood and grille.
Trying to finalize everything on them so they are on and bolted for good.
The grille with this truck was rough, a few tears along the outer lower edge, it was missing the inner chin shield, and one lower bar.
The grille I bought when I was gathering parts for the meat truck, was salvageable, but had bottom rust issues. I had removed the inner shield and sandblasted it quite a while ago.
So now, I am fixing rust on it and it will get welded in this one.
This one also had brackets brazed onto the lower sides for some reason, and the bottoms were mangled pretty bad,so I decided the best repair was to cut out sections from the other, as well as the bar and weld them in.
A friend of mine also has a '33 truck grill that needs the top fixed, so although I hate to sacrifice an old
truck part, it is going to make two other grilles really nice.
Here are a few pictures of that.

 

Do you have any photos or detail description on how you "hammered the little reveal that goes around the hinge" ? How did you handle the corners of the reveal ? Would love to do the same to my 36 Chevy doors. I am a newbie to metal shaping, so I can't image what you did to accomplish this reveal. Any help/advise would be appreciated. Thanks !

 

Hey, @64_Vette I looked through my pictures and realize I didn't take any of that process,
so, I just went out and hammered one out and took a few pics to show how I did it.

Started with tracing the hinge profile onto the metal
Roughly cut out the center excess, leaving about 1/4" inward
I just used square headed hammer and a 2" slice of railroad track, but any
clean edge of a vice would work.
I hammered the line slowly about 1/4" outside of my sharpie line,
You end up flipping the piece over and back doing a lot of tapping
to get the desired shape and depth.
Once you are happy with that, use snips or a little grinder to evenly clearance the inside
to your hinge. This one isn't great, but gives you an idea how I did it.

Also, on my door, I hammered that into a larger than needed piece, then trimmed
it to the size of the patch I needed.

I'm doing ok. I really like the looks of your truck,

I need new door hinges to my 34 pickup,
the ones i have are just too worn.
Do you know if there are any other i can use?

Kelly, Looks like you are keeping after it and it is looking great. I know just what you are saying about all the small stuff taking a lot of time with not much to show. I spent 3 hours yesterday just making a stainless steel ring to put over the shift boot. But I could not fine one the right size I had no other way to go.

 

Thanks! @stalle61 I don't know of others that will work.
If you have all your hinges, you can drill them and make bigger pins,
or drill and bush the stationary part that bolts to the pillar, then size it for new stock pins.

@383deuce Ain't that the truth. Lot's of little things to check off the list.
But they all gotta get done.

The last few weeks have been real frustrating for me, I have been fighting a cold
that never really goes away, due to my compromised immune system.
So not a lot has gotten done.

However, I did take my radiator in and get a leak fixed, took my generator in and had new brushes, springs, and bearings done, then they set it up with my regulator. I also changed my fan mount/
pulley and gained another inch of clearance to the rad.
I finished working my grille and threw some paint on it.
It's not great, but it's gooder
Same goes for my hood tops and side panels. I also riveted the new hood hinge to the tops,
installed my cowl lacing and bolted that all together for the last time.

Still finalizing things on the doors/ hinges, and latches, but have started to straighten out all the box
structure. All of the cross pieces were bent/ bowed pretty bad, and some rust issues to repair as well.

Hoping to have some good update pictures soon, but for now here is another front shot.

Lone Star Round Up is less than 100 days away.

 

A little bit of progress is better than no progress.

Thanks @redwelter Yes, driving it for the first time was so cool!
All the time we spend building Hotrods, imagining what it will be like to open that garage door
and drive it out. The work pays off.

I should have a fairly big update in about a week.

 

Just finished your complete thread. Great work but story is amazing. Would have been very easy for you to become discouraged with your health issues. Hope things are going well for you on that front. You are truly an inspiration. God Bless

@dumprat I bought it from George Moir, his selection wasn't great.
Sacramento Vintage Ford has a great kit, but our dollar is sucking, as you know.
