I have to say, I'm not spending $400 for any set of hub caps! I'd be adding a little extra and get wheels. Gene

hub caps are period perfect and the choice i would make.
i think i would keep looking for a deal on caps before i bought those for $400. swop meets. flea markets, tag sales and the interweb. you don't NEED them right now and something will turn up, better and cheaper. the best part about caps are you can swop them out if you find something better different.

    They are a "barn find"
You dont just "clean" barn find stuff, you gotta do some research.
Going to the hamb and asking how to wash hubcaps barn find is good enough!

If I was going to spend $400 on hub caps I might consider the nice chrome smoothies with new tires in the for sale section for just a little more.
    Just my 2cents...

Spinner54, if your tires are radials on old rims, they will cause the rim to flex, and turn your wheel covers into frisbees, so I would think twice about running those $400 O.G. caps and just use them for car shows.

I decided against spending a whopping $400 on hubcaps alone.

Keep the poverty caps you are currently running, get some trim rings to go with them, and lower that beauty a few inches. That will look great.

Wouldn't putting trim rings on the original '50s wheels with radials do the same thing with those full wheel covers? Won't they fall off too under pressure? Also, how much does it cost to lower a car a couple inches? Thanks!

Four fat chicks will lower the car for the cost of a dozen donuts!

How about some Moon discs? They're cool because they have already been spun...

The pressure of the tire/wheel doesn't pop you cap off a bad figment does.

Can you post a photo of the actual wheels on the car straight on? That will let us know what they are and what caps will fit.

We need a big brother system to step in and have you meet up with some local hambers. Nothing makes a car go together better than someone's who's done it before and can come over and help.

This thread has certainly taken an unexpected turn. Didn't see that coming.

Well, at least two of us got that obscure sub-reference. o_O

And welcome, Spinner54! Trust me... You didn't want to be "Merkin", with or without any number attached at the end. :p

Isn't a "merkin" a small fur bearing animal?

I heard they're small, but can consume the male of the species with little effort-
known as "man eaters" in some parts of the world.
    Nasty creatures for sure.

You took all the shit real good, Spinner. What is funny is that some guys giving you shit (in a nice way, I must say) were calling your caps Fiestas. Fiesta hub caps have the planet Saturn between the flippers. I am not sure, but it seems to me they were an Olds 1954 thing. The caps you have were available in the late 50's early 60's as a cheap after market piece.
And don't let anybody tell you that those flipper caps won't spin. When we were kids in Northern Minnesota, we drove our cars in deep snow. Flippers would get slowed down by the deep snow and would slip/spin on the rim. Next thing you know, the cap cut off your valve stem. Pretty funny it it was someone else.
