Projects Spark plug wires

does anyone have a recommendation for what the best spark plug wires would be for a single points distributor on a sbc 350 I heard that accel with the rfi suppression is good, but I didn't know if there was a better wire to use that isn't going to break the bank

There was a thread quite awhile ago that said autozone duralast universal set was a good starting point I belive it was part number1601 for something like $20

 

the moroso wires do you know if they have a protection layer that prevents the electrical current from interfering with the radio and everything?

 

Points ignition I use Packard 440 wire or comparable solid core wire. I seldom have a radio that works so I don't need RFI suppression.

I'm looking for a set that I can cut to length to customize the installation. Just black is fine with me, preferred actually, no colored wires needed. Also, no radio to worry about either, so solid core is fine too. (who needs a radio in a hot rod anyway?) Any recommendations? Is it best to just get some bulk wire and the ends and make them up from scratch? Or does somebody sell a set that leaves one end unfinished so you can cut it to length yourself and crimp the end onto it?

do moroso mag tune wires have rfi suppression also?

 

Accel suppression wound wires (8mm) come in red, blue, yellow, and black.
I got mine on the Bay last week:
Scroll down for best price, I looked at all, ranged from $89 (wow!) down thru $49 and $39 (same kit!) Further down was the SAME KIT, $21.
I ordered it with straight plug terminal boots (already installed) and straight terminals and boots for the distributor ends.
I had to shorten most of them 13", some of the shorter ones 3"-4", but had more than enough.
I used them on my 350 SBC, with rams horn exhaust manifolds...I wanted them to go over the covers and manifolds, then straight into the plugs.
(I mentioned they were for BBC...they come longer that way!)

Price may be a 'leader'...but they provide everything same as the costly set, the inner cores are 'spiral-wound', very strong, good hot spark. Hot or cold, my engine cranks for less than 2 seconds, fires right up. Recommended!!!

 

Taylor Cable. www.taylorvertex.com Absolutely the best cables I have ever purchased. Worth a look. Not cheap but if you keep the car they get cheaper as time goes by if you catch my drift. I have had a set of a pretty stout 396 that gets run hard and often and never have had an issue. I wish I could say the same about spark plugs.

 

Summit and Speedway have a huge selection. Cut to fit sets are good, once you get over the phobia of making your own wires up. I have a $14 Taylor cut & crimp tool and it works great.

 

whats the best size wire to run for spark plug wires on a singe point distributor? I heard 8mm is the highest that you want to go and, and ive also heard that it doesn't matter either way

 

AND...it's fun to watch the guy next to you at a stop start dikking with HIS radio

 

Many early point ignition distributor caps only take 7mm wires so more modern 8mm wires won't work.
