Thanks Jimbo! Having lots of fun doing it, and learning a lot. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
So since we are trying to get this thing on the road with the 283 by the end of April, I'm having my dad keep on the swap, or at least pulling the engine and trans. He's made a lot of progress in a week!! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Looking good! Boy that was not fun while it was 10°f in my unheated garage a few months ago. Remind me what rear end and Trans you are going to use? I have 3.08 in a 57 Chevy passenger rear end and a th350
700R4 trans, and a 70s Firebird rearend. Got from my cousin who wasn't sure of the exact ratio, he just knows it's tall. Not gonna complain...not trying to win any races, just cruising and making some noise! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That's some forward thinking! I wanted a 700r4 but a th350 found me. You know about he tv cable and everything?
Some more inspiration....playing some more in Photoshop with a more realistic visual. This is based on a '52. This is getting my blood pumping...
That looks sweet! Tv cable is what controls shifting on the 700r4 based on carb throttle position. Must be adjusted right so not to smoke the Trans
Got it, the kickdown cable. Yes - I believe we have something in place to make sure. My dad has been a technician for 30+ years, and has been helping me as we go along and teaching me the ropes.
Awesome. I think on the 700r4 it's more than kickdown- I think it controls up shifts too. Good to have someone helping that has experience! When you getting it back?
Yes, he is an amazing resource for sure! I've been learning a lot with this build. I head up to MI to work on the car with him Easter weekend, and then again in April for a weekend. Then the hope is that it will be ready to drive back here (3 ish hours) so that will be a good shakedown run!
Wow man thats a great plan. I want to certainly hear how it goes. Are you doing the bendix brake upgrade and a firewall mounted master cylinder or sticking with stock brakes? I bet those sanderson headers won't bother the stock master but the best thing you can do for safety is get rid of that single piston master. I started to build a cage to place a 1969 corvette master in that bolts to the stock frame location and takes the stock pedal(s). It would be a project for after my car is done but I could probably finish it and send it your way. Thats if your committed to keeping the master under the floor. I loved that look, but wanted to have power breaks and cringed at the idea of them under the car personal preference I guess cause they are neat, just not me. how about exhaust from those headers out? By the way, i started a build thread but I may have posted it in the wrong place, no one looked at it except one person. Or maybe it just didn't interest anyone but her
When you swap that rear end in, you can make your spring perches a little taller for some more drop. That's what I'm doing. Friend of mine is pulling the 7.5 from his ford ranger and making mounts that are 1/2" taller. I should be doing the swap in a week or two
As of now, I am keeping stock brakes. With more power and speed, we will see how I feel after running it for a while. I will definitely keep you posted on that progress!! Put a link to your thread in your signature like I did, maybe you will get some more traction. Also shoot Ryan Cochran a note to post it under "Traditional Customs" if it is not there already. I will find it and take a look!
I asked him to move it. It's now on the HAMB part. Thanks! There are under floor boosted masters that may work, Too. I didn't mind the booster on the firewall.
That's exactly what I'm going for with the chop. Perfect profile! You have more pics? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That's cool. I think, for me, 2" front and 3" rear with a welded and slightly pancaked hood would do the trick. My wife, who certainly has a say, wants a stock body. I'm good with it. For this car.
Age old saying...happy wife, happy life! I just figure get the chop to look like it was meant to be there from the factory.... [emoji4] I was thinking 4 or 4 1/2, and 6 for mine...
Correct, the TV cable on a 700R4 regulates line pressure, and if misadjusted or if it doesn't move in the proper relation to the throttle, will destroy the transmission.
Yea that is a bit of pressure to get it right huh? They're about 40% more to rebuild, too. I really wanted one but Th350 it is. As for the chop, the car almost begs for it, so in sure it will look great. A fellow Rochester Street Rod club member has a 49 Pontiac that has a "flattened" hood and fenders along with a modest chop and the result is sweet. Some fancy custom work on the bumpers too they are like... Molded in if that makes sense
Yes, my plan is to pancake the trunk a bit, but simply nose the hood. I saw some ribbed aluminum bumpers the other day from http://www.brizbumpers.com/ They look super killer, and is slightly different than your usual one piece chrome. I haven't priced them out yet, but LOVE the look, and think this is my plan.
