James, you make a mis-matched set of heads run harder than most guys could make AFR's finest run...I don't know exactly what it is you do differently, but you definitely have the "Magic", Brother!:)

Yeah....The 61 - 63 full size Pontiacs are so cool.

    1961-pontiac-ventura.jpg 1961-pontiac-ventura-us-indy-nationals.jpg

Arnie Beswick's 61 Ventura stayed in this area up until the early 2000's or so. No idea where it is now, except it probably is not on a drag strip, where it belongs.

There used to be a decent looking maroon 63 LeMans, here in Mt. Morris. It disappeared about 10 or so years ago.

Don't worry Jeff.....I realize you have to root for somebody else to beat me,cause The Okie Doker isn't up to it yet...

Hey!Here's an idea: The Okie Doker would have a chance at being SERIOUSLY fast......

.......If you just put that FE motor you're looking at in there.;)

  12. Zettle your comment on arnies fire made me curious to check the facts. You and i both being historians of the era want to have our facts correct. I went deep into my archives and came up with a surprise. We are both incorrect. National dragsters story about mr. Norm and don gays match race tells of arnie getting burned at us-30 dragway on aug.30. After don gay lost on the final round giving a match win to the dodge a fight broke out in the tower. Even though arnies hands were bandaged up he was still throwing punches. The gays cried fowl. Broadway bob declared norm the winner. look at arnies times no where near the eighties yet. that would come later in the year along with norms shot heard around the world at 8.43. 20160313_212636.jpg

Yup, my little mouse motor could use a better set of heads.

Dont plan on any engine work ( other than tuning ) not untill next winter, getting kind of late to start now.
My budget cant handle many surprises, and I DONT WANT TO PULL A SCOTTY this year.

With the rear end repairs and a little diet ( fiberglass trunk & rear bumper ) should put Tickety Boo back in the
10s and we will have a good race. ;)

The heads are for 2017 ( you might have the Pepper Shaker tuned by then ) and looking for mid 10s.

Maybe Jeff should call the waiting list the SCOTTY LIST :D lol

  15. tickety boo i got the 66 out saturday for a nice ride. i couldn't take it any more. it felt real good. a few imports found some respect for old cars. it would be fun to get the chevelles on the line for a run or two. when you go to the grove get ahold of me. i will meet you there.

This is the car that we helped Alan Ranz restore back in 1996. Alan had owned the car since 1965. He sold the car in 1998 to a collector in Lake Geneva. After the Belvedere Mecum action, it went to a collector in Nebraska. It is stored in a building with other significant cars that is literally the size of a Walmart store. You are right, it doesn't see any track time. When it left Alan's it had 3500 miles on the odometer. As for the maroon '63, there is one around Freeport I see from time to time.

I see no where in the post of Arnie's times. At Rockford on 9/18/65 with the '64 GTO he went 8.63 .

  20. I have been in that collectors museum. I sold him a indian side car for a chief he had. i delivered it to him and he gave me a private tour. at the time he was restoring the tickle me pink charger. the collection is truly amazing. not only is the place a museum it also has a restoration shop that is to die for. the best of the best are in there. I asked him how he became so successful. he told me he invented the satellite radio and sold the idea to gm. its just over border south of I-80.

Brian, paper will hold still for anything. I was getting my info from drag news that was posted on the HAMB in a earlier thread when we had this topic once before. I know it's hard to realizes that Mopar didn't create the sun, moon, and the stars.
