Ok guys last night I was surfing the net for more altered photos and came across this thread on this site. I though what a fantastic resource on fuel altereds. I started surfing through and well what do you know I spotted a very familiar name on page two with the grand title of "Historian".

I thought that is why he is "The man" he has seen all our photos before LOL.

I won't spoil the surprise take a look for yourself but do it when you have some time to spare because this site is chock full of altereds in nice big photos. This will keep you looking for a long time.

At the early pages some photos have disappeared but just scroll passed them and you won't be disappointed.

Here is the first altered I built, shortly after I graduated from high school. Car Craft magazine did a ten month long series on how to build a T-bucket. I used their article for guidance. Some details I remember from it:

    fiberglass body
1 1/2 x 3 tube chassis with Corvair coils all four corners
    337 SBC w/ .440 lift hydraulic cam
    TR-1 tunnel ram w/ 2 600 Holleys
    Muncie 4-speed close ratio transmission
10-bolt Chev axle later replaced by a 12-bolt when I ripped the 10-bolt out of it.
    11" slicks
home made grille shell and scoop
White truck side-mount Guide headlights (were required to run the weekly program at Detroit Dragway, where the photo was taken)

It ran low 10s @ 133 and was moderately successful in the brackets.
After I sold it to finance my first real (Logghe) altered I never saw / heard of it again until 30 years later I stumbled into it at the Bowling Green HRR.

It was put on the street. Love the chain steering wheel. At least nobody died in that thing.
After viewing many of the famed altereds on this thread I feel a little embarrassed to show my meager offering. We all have to start somewhere.

  20. This is Nick Cirino's Durfee Auto Special. The Olds was first run un blown. When Nick built the blown engine, he had no money left for blower injection. He simply made an angle mount adapter for the port injection, and went racing. Nick always ran gas. With the blower he flirted with 150. Used to watch Nick run it at Old San Gabe in '59,'60.

Maybe an Australian Torana . I think it is the same or similar as the the English HB Vauxhill Viva. You still see a few down here in New Zealand

Looks to me like a HB Torana. Very popular in Australia for jamming large capacity engines in and enjoying yourself.

A work in progress. This Bantam Roadster was being built in Kansas City for Wes Jerde in the early 70's. It was
later completed and to the best of my knowledge, only ran once as a fuel altered, at the AHRA Winter Nationals in Phoenix. It was later converted to a small block bracket racer.
