  2. Hey jimmy the v-12 conversion was a good way, back in the day to have a dual coil ignition. I believe it alternates spark between the two condensers to keep a hot spark charge. I know theirs guys on here that know way more than I do but I have seen them on running cars and they work good. You have to modify the rotor to work with v-8 caps. I have pictures of how to do it. If anyone following this thread knows more about this please share you knowledge as I would like to know more about it.

  4. I have an f1 box that came with the rolling chassis but I don't like how big they are plus I want to feel the car the same way gramps did. My goal is to feel like I was driving in 1947 buggy springs and tough steering.

  5. Hey Dennis, thanks for the heads up on the box being shorter.

With all the baloney put on here posing as "automotive" threads, every once in a while one gets posted that gets me smiling from ear to ear .
You have made my day (hell, week) with this excellent story and accompanying photos. I sure hope you get that project going, and you and your Grandad get to cruise with his old/ new club once again!
Family and Hot Rods, how much better could it get? God love you both!

i don`t know why more guys don`t put the master cylinder in the "K" member wedge, much cleaner method and i believe safer than having it hang below the frame rails. IMHO. and whatever you do, P U L L L E A S, use original `32 front engine mounts, or the bob drake FORGED re-pops.

  9. Well hotcoupe you must of seen my mastercylinder in the web. I'm going to make the 32 mechanical brake thingeee that hangs down from the back bottom of kmember work for the linkage. I'm gonna cut it and shorten it so It all works without binding. Iv been studying it for a few weeks and I know it will work. I will post pictures of it when I'm done. And yes I will only use a 32 crossmember with the motor mount cups. I bought bob drake repo motor mounts then got a real Henry set with the new chassis I bought. It's funny because the repos are about .140 thinner than the real Henry's. I will post pictures of them later tonight when I get home.

  10. Hey hotcoupe here is the difference in thickness between bob drake and Henry ford motor mounts. This is in the gusset area. So what's that about .210 difference. Anybody want to buy these bob drakes. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

  11. image.jpg Also how about these great china pieces. Bought these at early ford. None of the holes are in the same place and one hole is not even the same size. Just junk I could really use a pair of real Henry ones. These are the rear spring blocks.

Yeah, we have those too. Seriously, make a shopping list, haha.

As for the Bob Flake engine brackets, I'm not surprised. Besides having a thinner cross section, who knows what the material quality is like? Flake says they're forged but there's a big difference between forged 2015 China and Forged 1932 USA. Think of the job these little "L" brackets have to perform. You're 100x better off with gennie Ford parts. Even still, many times the Ford brackets have cracks in them. Definitely bead blast or somehow strip them to bare metal and take a close look. The ones I just put in my Deuce Pickup both needed some small cracks V'd out and filled.

. Really love your thought process, that's the same direction I like when building cars. I want it to drive and feel like a car from the era good bad and all. Makes it even better with the connection to your grandpa, great story. Will be following and really hope to see it at TROG in October.

This is like time travel. Your work is exceptional, it will be a fun car to drive, and I can't wait to hear about your grandfather and see a pic. My dad and l started a 29 Okie roadster in 1978, I still have the car in a trailer in storage, he has been gone for a long time, funds have kept the car from happening. I get misty seeing you get to do this. Thanks for sharing.
PS: he wanted every part to be traditional, nothing new but the rubber. He ran lakes.
PSS: l have the Don Montgomery history of Lakester's. I'm looking for the car.

  15. Thanks egor, it would be neat to see if he's in those don Montgomery books. It would also be cool if he got on this thread. I think I have seen him post of the hamb before. I don't know anything about him besides the fact he has made books about early days. And the day will come when you kick down those storage doors and get that roadster on the road. If there's a will there's a way. Get that car out and post it here and we can all see what we can do to help you out. Thank you for lookin in that book, I hope you can spot him.

This is it going into the trailer. Model A front, to go on and 32 wire wheels. That's a 28 Chevy frame and gear. Lots more stuff.
I have 4 of Don's books, it should be in one. My dad's was.

    Hey egor,

I have a 27 chevy AA 3 window coupe. 1927 was the last year of no front brakes. 28s had front brakes. Also I see 2 exhaust pipes. Is it missing one in the middle of those two? Like a 3 port Oldsmobile head??? Chevys only had one exhaust port that I know of. I don't see any front brakes and the motor looks alittle different could that maybe an olds frame. I'm not an expert on early Chevys so I could be wrong. It's still bada$$, and you got to getrdone. Let me know if I can help with anything. I have a lot of 27 chevy parts.

It is actually is a 28 someone put the early axle, bet that would be a good story. The brake mechanism is still there, only goes to the rear. Lol A guy rescued from somewhere in middle America and would go around selling to the highest bidder. I have some 25 racing stuff also. Have fun
PS: l saw talk about the Zepher ignition in Don's books, but no description.

  18. Awesome egor I would buy a 3 port head if you had one. Use the money to help get that roadster on the road. Thank you for looking in the book. I hope you find something in there about grandpa.

  19. image.jpg image.jpg Here is a picture of a zephyr one look at how the rotor has been modified it has also been modified for external coils. I guess I'm not sure as to this might be a ford converted to a dual coil using a zephyr rotor and coil pickup.

Yes i did have to notch the K member for the shifter lever, i can try and take a pic tomorrow.

Are you looking for a lincoln distributor core to convert, i have a few and might have an extra but not sure

  26. Titus,

Yes I would like to try and convert one on my own. I feel pretty good about understanding what it would take to convert one. Also I would like to see the notch in kmember. I had it all mocked up and was like damn I have to notch the k member too. No big deal just more work. I would like to find a complete v-12 working distributor so I can start with a working one. But I would take any I can get since they are getting hard to find. I hate eBay so I would rather find them from someone on the same page as me and not a retail over the rainbow kind of person. Thank you maybe we can trade.......

Talked to a friend who told me how the V12 ignition was converted to the V8. It was an early hop up for the flathead. Good luck.
