One day at pomona swapmeet in california my buddy took his 67 camaro he had the engine on . This guy came over and ask its thats a 1950's mustang? I almost crack laughing but my buddy told him its a 67 camaro . And then he ask does it run fast or is just the muffler that makes it sound like that. At the point i walk away and laugh my ass off . To this day we say to ur buddy that his car is pure muffler. [emoji23]

Heres my plan for an idiot free car show. You just show a time slip at the gate. 14.00 and down doesn't get in, unless they want to come in as "spectators".;) I would park inside for that deal, I wouldnt have to worry about the crybaby doll on the car next to me tipping over and landing on my car, or some geezer scratching it with his lawn chair....:D
And absolutely NO poodle skirts. Not even on spectators...

I know an idiot that ran 11.3's..Same said idiot buys a "done" 8 sec. Maverick with 427 SBF, has nos..Wants to get his 9 sec license [in his bucket, more like brag list] ...I ask who's going to help him run the car, he gets huffy and says it don't need nothing...I say yeah now, but who's going to maintain it? He gets more huffy, then brags he'll give it to his kids...Of course I ask if they know what to do [of course I know they don't] and more still huffy I get it don't need nothing..So I says your blessed if you can do it all by yourself...Now his head swells some and asks me what nos system he should run..WTF..I thought he said it needed nothing..I said Internet ...He said he never heard of that brand.................................

This was a great idea for a thread as I usually don't read all 10 pages of a thread but I did on this one. As the owner of 6 Edsels over the years I've heard some interesting comments too but unfortunately I can't think of any right now. I must be getting old....

I have heard some over the years too. People that dont know shit about cars come out to car shows to look at them and have a good time, they have been doing it for at least 40 years that I have been aware of.... We get that, really, BF deal:rolleyes:...if you really find it unbearable, see post #222. If there were an automotive IQ test at the gate, plenty of HAMBers wouldn't make it in either...;) Threads like this really make us look like a bunch of pretentious egotistical dickheads, IMO.

I have had some CCCA full classic when I was in my late 20's and people often tell me that I am wrong about the year of the car that I actually own. Pretty sure I know what year it is. Come back to more then a few people sitting in my cars which blows me away. Had someone almost get in a fist fight with my father of all things when he had the 55 Thunderbird out and the guy as convinced it was a 61.Like we were lying to him about it, they look nothing alike.

To me the more dressed the part, IE good guys shirt and hat, the less they actually know about cars. Want to avoid it entirely just go to the track. Nobody cares there, everybody is just trying to do a little bit better then they did the last lap or test run.

You know I have a million of these...probably why I started the thread. Dad and I rolled into a cruise in early one night. Second car on the lot. The first was an early 80s Mustang Indy Pace Car with the hood up. We left a few spaces between us and the Stang, pulled the chairs out and got comfortable in the shade. The guy came over and asked if we knew anything about AC. He had a can of 134A refrigerant in his hand. Not really wanting to work on a car this night, I said not really. He said he had his car converted to 134 but it had a slow leak. He said he was just wondering how much he should put in. I said you know you need a special tool for this little operation, it opens the can so you can fill the system. He said I know, I have one in the trunk.

So he heads back over, gets something out of the trunk and is now under the hood out of sight. Suddenly there are a couple of pretty loud bangs and he yells. I look over just in time to see the pressurized can rocketing away from the mustang towards the back of the McDonalds across the parking lot. Dad and I jump up and run over to see what happened. There he is, hands glowing red, a big red stripe up the side of his face, squeezing a second can between his knees and about to pierce the opening with a church key.

I said Hey! Hey! what the hell are you doing. He glanced up, with sort of a dazed look on his face and I swear to you as I sit here and type said, "I guess I am going to need another can, that first one got away."
He was planning on poring it in the radiator.

This thread has me rolling...I can't wait to bring my jalopy to some shows, especially when a gold chainer asks me to be a good girl and pose in front of his car for a photo, cannot wait to say, sure but only if you pose in front of mine and be sure to pop out your pot belly and show some of your pasty white legs...

So much hell to raise, so little time.

  14. Don't ask me that... You might not like the crowd that gathers when I change into my little booty shorts. Pasty white legs tattoos and and a beard will get some looks!

I went to the movies there, but I didnt make the car shows there. I was across the river then. We used to go to the Java Hut, the A&W, and we were out at Latimore and Harvey a bit.We used to hang around the Lumberland on Fraser Highway behind the McDonalds quite a bit too. I wasnt really big into the car show scene at that time...We were into "other" stuff...;)

George, I dont doubt your words at all. I have seen them too... very entertaining to watch. But, there are alot of arm chair racers that do fall into the numbers/time slip game and nothing to back it up. The ones that are serious street cars, just blow me a way.

I dont doubt you do^^I was starting to get a little annoyed with some of the talk on this thread;). It needed some "cleaning up", seems to have had the desired effect. I'd be willing to go out on a limb here and say that most any of us that were kids in the sixties/seventies went to a shit-load of car shows as "spectators" for many years, and I know theres a few old guys around here that are currently going to car shows as "spectators" that have built some pretty damned nice cars in the past,(I am talking cars that have won major shows) not bought them. A whole lotta smack being talked here.
