I was wondering, is there a way to compare the specific formulas for the 3 or 4 top favorites here? I was thinking a few might be very, very close if not the same, but just have different names. Gary

A fellow classmate in High School built a stunning '50 Ford that he painted Maroon. I loved it. I had decided to paint the '48 Coupe I'm building Maroon; until looking at all shades and tints within what is called Maroon on this discussion. The result is that I'm not sure what Maroon I like, since I've seen so many; and all, in their way, are luscious. One thing I do know is that some cars are better for the choice; while others, from all appearances, seem to suffer from it. BUT, all Color, I learned in Art School, is subjective; add to that the fact our reactions to what can be reproduced in a photograph (as seen on a computer screen) and what was on the actual car, and you have yet another variable to consider, that prejudices your opinion. Therefore my reaction and deduction are subject to that. Because of that, I'm going to keep an open mind, and spend a lot of time, between now and when it comes time to select the exact Maroon I want to use, by enjoying my new found knowledge --- about all the various examples on real cars, by taking notes, and comparing them to those I took here, as I go to car shows. I want Thank Everyone who posted images, and expressed their opinions. There is a lot of knowledge here. Maroon On Guys!!!

I'm a new member and this is my first post. The Talbot Lago above is the color I'm looking for in a single stage, non-metallic. I love this color but the closest I can find in a factory code paint is the eggplant (or aubergine) that came on some 70s Porsches. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I really like the maroon on asphalt angel's ride. From this maroon colored hot rod thread.

    PPG delfleet 709920

This has me looking closer at delfleet, they offer large variety of factory packed colors and the price is manageable. I'm trying to find something that needs painted and give this line a try. My local store will order any delfleet I want but only have a few color charts at the store.

I painted the block, trans and carbs 69 Ford Royal Maroon, like a 69 boss 429 a friend owned once. A close up in my avatar. Pretty color but I am thinking about changing gears and going House of Color Black now.

In the pic below the motor and trans is Royal Maroon, the frame is Semi Flat Steel with Rust Highlights and the body is finished in Wonder Woman Clear Coat since I couldn't decide on the base color.

Those are great colors, but they seem to be more in maroon's corner, rather than burgundy's. Can anyone point me to a really deep non-metallic burgundy that's a factory color or otherwise can be replicated ?

Lot of info, cross references, etc at http://paintref.com/paintref/index.shtml

Once you poke around their site a bit you'll find a lot of the colors displayed on cars, some current and some pics from original factory brochures.

In their searches, if you know you like a green that was used on a 68 Mustang, for example, but don't know the name or code, you can narrow the search with a couple clicks to show only greens used on 68 Mustangs.

Chrysler 3636 is a nice burgundy with a fine metallic that I sprayed my nephews Ford truck. The wife had a 79 Chev that was carmine red with the vinyl white that was a really sharp combination. Bought the 79 in Feb 1980 brand new at a steal as the 79's were not selling and they needed room for the 80's. I think the 17% interest rate discouraged buyers.

Thanks. That's a nice color but I'm looking for a single stage non-metallic paint reference.

I have looked at every Maroon for my project and I think Ford's 2015 or 16 Maroon I saw on a Ford Focus is a retro color to their Heritage maroon that they used in the 60's. Kia also has a great maroon that would also look good. Neither is a poly.

Perhaps the 3636 could be mixed with a non metallic base. Some paint suppliers can custom mix paint & put it in a spray can so you could see what it looked like before getting knee deep in cost.

There's a powder coat color that I love and I too was never a burgundy guy. It's called oxblood red.

The swatch doesn't do it any justice.

    I like Ford Mandarin Maroon.

However there are a lot of variations of that color, so you have to find one you like and go for it.

The last time I used this color the shade from 1963 is what I chose for a '40 ford. I liked it better that the color that was the actual 40 color.
