  1. Ok so a while back I offered to help a fella out and he decided that I am a backyard mechanic. I actually prefer shade tree mechanic but well hell if the show fits right?

Anyway @Tim didn't want no damned backyard mechanic helping him with his old heap so knowing that all the separates a shade tree mechanic from a real poorfessional [SIC] mechanic is a sign making his shop official. He just happened to have this board and some paint and made me a sign, we hang'ded [SIC] it over my bench yesterday.

I am official now fellas no longer a backyard mechanic. ;)

Not sure but shouldn't it be on the outside of the shop? I mean if you had name tags for your shirts you wouldn't put them on the inside...Um, no you probably would..:D

  5. LOL once when I was in high school I bought a "Bull Shirt" things were about as backward as I am back then and they made me turn it inside out or go home and change it.

Not zoned commercial here and if you can keep the code Nazis off your back you can do more.

It will be hung outside when we move.

Hell I'll play Beano. Been moving into my new little slice of heaven and starting to hang a few things.
The Twisters sign came from a local, now pretty much defunct, car club that put on some damned good shows back in the 70's-80's. Proud to be the caretaker of this bit of local history.
shot of the wall in the new digs. Eyeball is an old baby moon and some garage sale angle wings..

  7. Is that a Kendell oil sign or a kenworth sign?

I had a shop in town 25 years ago. Sign has been hanging in my home shop ever since. I still keep up the tax license, but I can go years between paying jobs these days thanks to my wife.

Kendell, pretty rough but makes good decor. Who knew Tim was artsy?

    I moved once...

  11. I go long stretches between paying jobs these days too. I actually had to turn down a good one recently because on my borked wing. But my wife and SSD keep me afloat.

I haven't even seen Kendell oil in ages. Cool sign.

My place up north has a parking lot sign for a MoDOT Project Engineer hanging on the back wall. We are going to change the name, cause that will make me a Civil Engineer. :D

  12. That is cool as all get out! I bet it only took him about an hour or so. Seems those "quicky"-here-you-need-one -of-these" things are always the best.

Most of my signs are wasp nests in the rafters, oil stains on the concrete, spider webs everywhere and of course the blood spatters on the wall by the bench grinder.

**** I don't even cl***ify as a mechanic, "Shade Tree Hack" is more like it.

I don't require a sign for people to recognize it either haha

  22. LOL there was lots of cars built under that old Oak tree in the front yard on 26th Ave in Forest Grove way back when. Ol' Man Dorman even came over with a few beers and helped a late night or two.

I remember once him coming over and telling me that my rope block and tackle was not going to hold the 401 I was stuffing into my mom's '66 Special once and then coming back with a chain fall and saying, "You'll have my whole shop over here if I am not careful. Does your mom know we are swapping motors in her car?"

yea its a kind of an Oxy***** isn't it. :D

When I saw the ***le I expected to see a new garage. There is a certain pleasure laying on the cool concrete tinkering under a hot rod. IE yesterday wiring taillights.

My wife had this one made up for me a few years ago. Most of my bench work tends to be electronics, on vintage tube style guitar amps. Most of my hot rod work gets done out on the driveway.

An official-like sign!__I like it!!!__I hope to have one someday, but I made too damn many mistakes on my car recently, that I've had to fess-up & admit yet again__ way too much to qualify for a sign!:D:D
