  5. They still deliver them here, we use them if someone comes to dinner with a little kid.

I keep thinking I should be friends with someone who does neon sign work, I want a, "neon sign that points the way to our bathroom down the hall."

Well, I guess I have had a sign all these years, just forgot. I had to go look and see if it was still there. Back when I went in business (late 70's) I had magnetic signs painted to put on my light blue truck. I had the lettering done to match. Got a different truck and the signs didn't look right on it, so I slapped one of them on the front of my desk. You can see it if you hold your head just right when you're at the front door. sign.jpg

A friend made me a sign for my garage which never got hung up so maybe its time for me to be official so I need to see where I put that sign.

Here is a sign given to me by a co-worker a day or two after I told him of a recent (free) engine change out project (in my home shop) that had been less than trouble free.

The sign outside of my garage door only says "OPEN" or "CLOSED". Still, after all these years, many people think the garage door has to be open for the business to be open! I heat my garage in the winter. I ask them if they leave their house door open in the winter, and I usually get a dumb look, and a "why would I do that?" I ask them, "Why do you expect me to leave my door open then?" Still doesn't register with some people. People are interesting. Gene

Did you misspell "Tune" on purpose?

    My in shop sign says:

    Shop Rates:
    $75 per hour.
$85 per hour if you watch.
$100 per hour if you help.

  18. I was almost back to the real world last may, I made it as far as Corn Town.

When I was there in the '90s Mr Dorman was living a few blocks from my wife's aunt. She asked me if I ever paid Mr. Dorman for the Hudson and I said no that I had never bought it from him. She said "he's still got it, won't sell it says it belongs to a red headed kid and someday he's going to come get it." We were on a tight turn and didn't go find him that trip and it never worked out after that. I guess I missed my last chance to see that old friend whether I picked the old car up or not.

    Still kicking myself actually.

Les Lesneski in Charlotte, NC. was the only professional mechanic I ever knew that took beer as payment. That was 20 years ago.

You didn't even spell mechanic correctly in your poll ***le. :D
Even so I voted hell no :D You are still a motorcycle riding hoodlum who wants to be a mechanic :)
The sign can't change that :D:D

  21. A sign will clear all that up. I know that it will because every printer technician on this continent that lost his job in the recession is now building hot rods for a living. All it takes is a sign. :D :D :D

Well if he spelled it TOON he would have had to put LOONEY in front of it, which would also be appropriate. :D

Hey bud I havn't lifted a wrench or any other tool since I started flying with one wing the first part of the year. I think that we got the motor mounts mocked up and started making a one piece hood since you were here. There is a thread I'll for you off a link. ;)

I got to say there is a joke in the little town where are going to retire, "He'll eat anything as long a there's beans." ;)

@winduptoy actually the old heap is going to get 4 fenders so it will be way more than your average garage band. :D

By the way there are some pretty rad signs on this thread, of course it could just be that I have always liked shop signs.

Yep and I started to say that I am hooked on phonics but then it should have been spelled Muh can nick. :p

I would still be a scooter tramp, but I am semi retired, well perhaps benched for injuries is a better term. I was going to move my throttle to the left but I actually had a very old friend in Nor Cal call the missus and tell her to make sure I didn't do that. They had quite the conversation about it. LOL :)

My dad was a tell it like it is kinda guy, WWII generation and was very firm on buy American. When VW's first started showing up in the states and some one brought one in for repair he would point to the sign over the door and ask, Can you read that sign for me? If they said no then he would reply, Then you shouldn't be driving that car.
The sign still hangs today. The bottom of the Toyota sign says "From those nice people who brought you Pearl Harbor" 20160406_072438.jpg

Well, being as how anybody who can (half-***) drive a nail is a "carpenter," I would say yes, difference being you are more qualified in your field than a half-*** nail drivin, wood butcher. Burgers? I thought everybody worked for beer o_O

It's just a reproduction, but the Texaco sign was my Christmas present from my wife.

Talk about signs reminds me of when I was 18. Pulled up to a party right before it got busted by the police. One of the officers wanted to look in my trunk.
I had a case of beer and the rest of the available trunk space was loaded with street signs.
The officer asked me where I got the signs.
I told him I found them alongside the road.
He laughed and said I bet you did!
Took my case of beer, told me to drop the signs off at the police station, then go home as he would be calling my mom... small town.

I pulled up in front of the police station and was throwing the signs out as fast as I could before someone came out to see what the hell I was doing. Then off home a scared young man about to get in trouble:-/

  25. LOL I use to have a YIELD sign in the back of my old Ranch Wagon, I was 16 at the time. I actually used it for a sand board when I motored to the beach. When I met Mrs ****** she pointed it out and said that I needed to loose it, uh pronto. It took me years to figure out why she didn't want me to have a yield sign in my car. :) I got one of these after that and she didn't appreciate that one either. :D :D

  28. Super Tune is actually an inside joke. I really can't explain it because I really don't remember the context of it. I do remember that @saltflats was involved though maybe he remembers.

I came by the Pork'n'****** moniker actually quite honestly about 30 or so years ago. Perhaps before that actually. The short version of it is that I was offered a Full Ride flat tracking from motor cycle manufacturer which I turned down in no uncertain terms. My dad was standing there and he said, "you idiot how could you turn that offer down. You'll never be anything but a Pork 'n' ******." I suppose he was right.

Flat track motorcycle racers are a different breed, Lack the pucker factor gene, have great respect for bike racers and porknbeans are good, great with my favorite meal, cheeseburgers.

  30. I used to tune a pro stocker for a guy before he had any big sponsors. I always kept a can or two of Van Kamps in case we didn't win or place that weekend. If we got the purse we had steak and if we didn't I always had pork n beans. ;)
