Two questions that I've been researching but finding no specific drawings/information.

1 - Will the late engines (1949+) fit the earlier transmission?

2 - Do I need adapters or specific bell housing?

I have a buggy with the enclosed driveline and would like to keep it that way. If I can pull off this swap then all components would be earlier than 1950.

    Thanks!!

You need the truck bellhousing and hogshead. I don't have photos with me but can take some when I get home.

I have a spare six cylinder bellhousing but no spare hogshead aka the piece that goes between the belhousing and trans that holds the clutch fork.
I'll try to get some photos when I get home.

  4. King Henry V8 himself made the adapter you need, actually made two that will work, one came in '48-'53 V8 trucks, and the other came in '48-'51 Mercurys. One is cast iron, the other is stamped steel. Use either one you can find.

This is what you are looking for. On the later 40's and early 50s flat head six trucks the hogshead that guys look for to bolt T-5 transmissions to flathead V8 engines bolted to it.

The 3" V8 cast/stamped bells from '48-'52 trucks and '49-'50 Mercurys will not work with 6 cylinder engines. The 6 cyl parts look similar, and use entirely different starter plates.

I need to pull the bellhousing off my 8BA to change the clutch disk anyhow so maybe I should do that and get photos of both six and V8 setups side by side for reference. The six cylinder plate is behind the bellhousing in post 6.
I've never found info on if the bellhousing it's self is the same or different.
