I remember this car well. Used to run around with driver Mike Burn's brother. Another team with neat stories.
Great combination of car, owners and driver. Hard core racers. George Burkhart had a real passion for nitro. Car was VERY loud and kicked some serious butt at the time. Kind of looks like Mike Burns in the red shirt. Thanks for posting.

Blown Pontiac in the Stebbins & sons coupe...once the JADO coupe owned by Jim Kamboor and Don Alderson...the aluminum frame was replaced, and this engine went in where the blown flathead had been...apparently there was discord in the family that kept the car from being run much...where is it now?

Not entirely sure where this is, maybe Half Moon Bay? No ID on car.

    5508hr_z.jpg
HRM Cover of Ed Losinski's dragster when it still had a flathead...later got Harry Duncan's injected 354" Chrysler...looks like Pomona

    Looks like Ontario...

I think this is the J&J Muffler roadster at Lions, Dave Beebe driving??

Riverside, this might be the Leonard Abbott car that was a testbed for his Lenco transmissions, not sure, though

The Chrisman & Cannon Hustler with the original front-drive blower...it backfired into the plenum and destroyed it...which is why the Hustler was unpainted at the first Smoker's meet, needed new bodywork after the explosion...and it ran the first top-mounted blower manifold that Weiand made, Art bought it before the holes were drilled as he needed it for Bakersfield---it worked, he won the meet. Below is Ike Iacano's GMC powered car that Pat Ganhal had restored.

Original Rat Trap, Don Green...this car had a very hard time going straight, later replaced by the one with the independent front suspension.

Art Chrisman at Santa Ana...nothing around then, now it is the John Wayne airport...

    early-1950s-dragster.jpg
Very early dragster at Paradise Mesa, this may be Dode Martin of Dragmaster fame...before slicks, guys tried snow tires for traction...

More Paradise Mesa, notice the X on the runway to keep planes from thinking it is an active runway...

  21. Jesse James owned the Jado coupe for a while. I understand it was sold when he left Long Beach. Don't know who has it now.

C & T Strokers The Wenderski & Winkel Top Fueler making a run at San Gabriel Drag Strip. John Wenderski was tragically killed driving the Black Beauty at San Diego Raceway in February 1964.

The Stellings & Hampshire Red Stamp Car was one of the most beautiful dragsters to ever burn rubber.

Can't identify this one...rollbar looks too high for the Train...TTwomotor? (...and here is the answer: "that is the last version of the Freight Train, was a legs under car. Here is a picture from the side."...thanks!)
