  1. Hi Renee,
Thanks for the update, thoughts and best wishes with your parents, and your family at this time. I tend to think that out of pure principal your father would be quite determined not be accepting of his last ride being in a Hyundai, and trust he'll be back into action as soon as practical. Again, thoughts with you and your family at this time.

    Thanks Renee', for the update.
I know Tony was hoping the surgery would go ahead on Monday.
I guess I need to give him a bit of therapy. So I have scanned a number of images from the early days at Lake Gairdner.

Here we go with another round of therapy shots for Tony. I think these were taken around 1993. Although the one in front of my garage may have been a few years later.

I hope this doesn't mess with Tony's head to much.

Some more for the patient Tony.
The Lake Gairdner shots are around 1994. The others are at Bright maybe around 1998 maybe.

Here's another series of shots for the patient.
The first 4 were taken in 1993. The first at one of the John's Rod and Custom Picnics held in Cranbourne.
The other 2 were taken at Bright in 1994.

Here's a bunch of images from Lake Gairdner 2001. I think this was the last time I went to the salt and the first time we ran Chuck Sharpe's banger. Chuck had shipped it out from the states and we fitted it to the # 24 Rea, Weir, Mumford T modified roadster. Chuck came out and drove the car, I think to around 125 mph; to run the record. It may even still hold that record. I think Chris, Wayne and Russel took the car back the following year. which may have been the last time the car went.

I just got a call from Rita, to let me know Tony had his operation Thursday and that he is now down in the St John of God hospital in Warrnambool.
Rita said the operation went well.

Thanks Drewfus for the images. I have some fond memories of time spent in Chuck's garage.
I think there may be a bit of interest in the Rea, Weir, Mumford; #24 modified roadster. So with my next lot of images I will give a bit of history on Chuck Sharpe's involvement with the car, Chris, Wayne, myself and Aussies in general.
Then if there is any interest I will give a history on our race car.

Over the year many Australians visiting the US stay with Nancy and Chuck Sharpe in the home in Monrovia, California.
After a few events at Lake Gairdner, Chuck had mentioned to I thnk John Lynch; that he would like to attend an event there. Because Nancy and Chuck had done so much for so many. I whole bunch of Australains chipped in and bought Chuck a ticket out here. The rest as they say is history.
One of his many trips out here, Chuck had mentioned to us that he would love to run his banger engine out here ( he had driven a few race cars at the salt here, ours included). So Chris, Wayne and mself, discussed it. When next Chris talked to Chuck on the phone, he said to Chuck, if you can get the engine out here; we will fit it to our race car.
As it turned out, John Lynch was bringing in a container and in 2001 the engine arrived.

Tony I hope you are on the mend. Geoff I am loving all the old photos and if you want to tell the history of any old race car you have my undivided attention. That banger looks wild!

  21. Hi Geoff,
As you are aware I've been a big fan of No24 since first seeing it on the salt, so look forward to seeing more of your photo's and hearing the details, as it is inspiring on a number of levels, just as the car has been an inspiration for me and many others over time.

Nice, Geoff. It has been a few years, but I was a regular visitor to Chuck and Nancy`s. Mostly when Steve was living there, and when I worked for Dave Enmark. Can`t believe that was 30 years ago....

Thanks for the photos from the Salt. I remember Tony with his car at the salt and Peter Byron from Stawell doing the sign writing for Tony on the salt.
