Hoping some of you can help me identify a few things. I was able to confirm the engine is a 4 bolt main 350 from a 69 Corvette and the 4360 heads are an aftermarket head that are modified from the original GM casings. What I was hoping for was help on the drums/hubs? I would like to know if they are Ford or Chevy and what generation so I can order disk brakes for the front. (the previous owner said it did not stop too well). Also I know the car was built in 1970 but there is no mention of the manufacturer. I have spent hours going through the net looking for tell-tail signs but no luck. The rear suspension and the forward facing ladder-bars... I can not find on any other T bucket. Can anyone give me an idea where to look. This car plans to be a driver an as such, would like to add things like seat belts and other safety related items. I can see from the steering shaft it is a one bolt deal so I will need to do something about that. Any direction will be very much appreciated.

There should not be a front braking issue on a light car with skinny front tires, IF the 40's brakes are done correctly, and adjusted properly.

Putting discs in place of old school 40 brakes will make it look like a newer, and boring, build style.

    >>>>Pull the drum center nut off and look at the shoes. Do they look like 100% of each shoe is touching the drum? Lots of times with worn out drums or shoes not adjusted correctly, the whole shoe won't be making contact, and easy to ee.

Most 40 brakes have been upgraded with the slightly bigger later 40s wheel cylinders, which gives more braking.

Putting high performance front brakes on a light T with skinny tires is not productive, as it will just lock the fronts because of less tire grip.

That was indeed a lot of car in its day.Still is.I can tell you first hand you can get in way over your head in a hurry in a car with that kind of power to weight ratio! Have fun!

I was thinking there should be plenty of stopping power (at least to lock them up) with the drums in the front. I actually like the looks of the drums up front. I agree with you F&J.

Boy, I sure need to hear those positive words on here, now and then.

I do like T's as well as most any car/truck, and those little slices of old time parts is sort of what this site was about.

When you see a T with 40 brakes from a distance at a show, people will come to see what else the car has for "cool".

No, not from 40 to 48. Those brakes are 1939 to 1941 only. The shoes and hardware are different from 42-48 and won't fit your brakes.
