    Fred,
    Could that be small gearbox (for 2-3 speeds) or for reverse, or for both purposes?

    I suppose that box at the middle of jack-shaft isn't differential, but just 90° transfer-box - and pulley/belt combination serve as limited differential with slipping of belts at corners and sharp curves... So, jack-shaft could be in one piece - what happened at one side - happened at another too?

    Front pulleys really looks as some for CVT, but rear pulleys look fixed? At the beginning of XX century, there were some systems for motorcycles, but both pulleys were separated in the middle and could be pushed out or pulled inside as at modern CVT... Only, classic systems had smaller ratio of speeds...

    Maybe there is somewhere textual explanation?

    Ciao,
    Zoran

    Zoran, in this photo it looks like a gear shift lever on top of the bevel box. Also looks like a lever going to the centerpoint of the rear spring maybe to tighten or loosen the belt??!!

    ==============================
    Fred,
    Lever with white knob on bevel box could be command for Forward-Neutral-Revers, similar system used for outboard motors and later used for DAF automobiles with CVT?
    Two levers on the right side: maybe one for transmission and another for hand-brake? But, they are the same - quite confusing... Question could be if lever(s) moved trans-axle or rear axle as Bedellia had?

    On most of models (racing and touring) there is third lever on right side, smaller and something behind two bigger...

    Pity that there is no photos about reconstruction of some David! Anyway, it looks as quite well-built and serious cycle-car, almost real automobile!

    Thanks for all that Zoran. Really interesting car. I think you might be right about the shift lever.

  13. Herb, it's funny- that house is almost identical to where one of my grade school buddies (JR Bottoms) grew up in South Narberth (right along South Narberth Ave)- did a double-take when Bob posted the pic :)
