My old '47 coupe back in the mid-'90's...stock frame with a rear steer, '69 Camaro subframe, and '69 Camaro 10-bolt rear on lowered S-10 leafs...manual steering, manual disc brakes, dropped coils, bias-ply 5.60 fronts, L-78 rears...350/350

Love old timer math. Grand father said the same thing and wouldn't listen to any explanation saying that a 1" smaller wheel only lowers a car 1/2". Tire sizes can make a bigger difference...

I have a rusty old piece of crap that fits this thread... 1948 Mercury coupe with an a-dap-tor kit to hook a 283 up to the stock Ford parts. OG Mercury spotlights. It should drive once I finish rebuilding the brakes.

Probably just the angle of the picture but that nose looks super long. Looks like a good project though.

Mercs have a longer nose and frame but shares the body and running gear with the Ford. The angle of that photo doesn't help any either, agreed. :D

I'm 39, my '48 Club Coupe came with later 15" wheels and a '49-'51 Mercury rear end - springs, perches, and all - welded in when my late father and I bought it back in 1990. He started on cars in the late '50s, and said that's the way they did the drivers back then.

Eli, Your dad started about the same time as I did, I traded for the yellow bird as my wife calls it, it has the orig. motor with dual carbs, heads and cam, a t-5 trans, 8in ford rear, discs on the beam, and air, I'm loving it can't drive it enough, enjoy yours, TJ

  14. If you're looking at the swan-neck mirrors that replace your cowl moldings, you'll hate 'em. The drivers side is just barely usable, you won't even be able to see the passenger side mirror from inside the car. Had a set on my avatar, took them off. Went with the swan neck door mounts, but had to drill some holes....

If you decide on the door mounts, check eBay; I got a set of two for about $40, same as the ones Drakes sell for more...

Not sure if this one ever made it over here or not, but this one is a favorite of mine. I'da gone at least 15" on the front, but those options didn't abound 25 years ago as they do now. scan0003.jpg scan0004.jpg scan0005.jpg

And this one from the same era. This thing was/is dead cool! You'll have to read the text, but I remember it to have been a Bob Bauder kinda deal, and his stuff was always low and handled well. About 15 years ago I was leaving the midwinter run at Temecula in my Plymouth, and I and some other rodders headed out on a mountain road east out of Hemet on the way home. Right out side of town, we caught up to the then owner of this car, and he and I attacked that mountain twisty turny with abandon! We ended up WAY out ahead of everybody else! Rattle "traditional" all you want, NOTHING beats a pair of slot car handling, fat fendered cars on a mountain road.

Good looking car. I love the '41 dash. Which grille is it wearing?
