This is a question for all the transporters out there.

Im having a new purchase ( 56 Chevy ) shipped and have an issue. The previous owner text me after the transporter loaded the car mentioned that I need to check the clutch because the driver decided to back the car up on to the second tier. He said the guy was slipping the clutch at about 6000 RPMs all the way up and that the clutch was smoking pretty bad. He also mentioned that he got the car hung up on something and was spinning the rear tire because it wouldn't move and needed his ***istance to get the car unstuck.

My question is what is the correct way to go about this issue? Obviously I don't want to pay the guy anything until the car has been checked. I also don't want to sign anything until things have been cleared.

If something is wrong do I just not pay the guy for the transport or do I file a claim with the insurance company? What proof will I need to file the claim? Right now all I have is 5 guys who were at the shop who saw the whole thing happen.

The transporter owns his own company and trailer and is the only driver.

I appreciate the help and wisdom.

There's probably nothing you can do, until after you've accepted deliver. Technically, nothings wrong with the car, until it's in your hands. Secondly, sounds like so far, all you have is "He said" evidence, which isn't worth squat.

I wouldn't get too freaked out about it. When it shows up, drive it around a bit, if it needs a clutch, toss one in it. Getting the transport company to spring for a new clutch would be an uphill climb.

Looks like a pretty neat little car.

Yeah but there will also be clutch dust and the smell of it.

have you driven this car before? did you buy it online without seeing it in person? maybe there was something wrong with the clutch to start with and the seller is trying to p*** it off on the transporter?

be hard to hold the transporter responsible just on the seller's words without prior inspection and test drive if that does turn out to be the case..

With all the transporter horror stories going around... a smoked clutch is minor. See how it drives after you get it off the truck.

So? So the transporter says it was like that when he got it. Now what? See where this could head? "He said." isn't worth a damn in small claims court or the legal department of an insurance company. Now, if you had a video..... maybe things would flow in your favor.

OK here is my 2 cents maybe to late but here goes I bought a car on the spur of moment while on vacation last November 3500 miles from my home a 2006 Mustang yes not a H.A.M.B type car but the situation is still the same this car came from a wholesale type dealer long time in business every thing looked good at time of the sale I paid cash for my car and stayed in the area for a extra day to see my car loaded on the car transport the dealer setup for me I never talked to the driver just sat in the rental car and watched all went well .Flew home and waited for my car as transport broker told me they had 1 more car to pick up would be traveling a slow longer route through the southern states to the west coast to avoid snowy mountain p***es it is early November as I live in Seattle Washington area by doing this it would save me several hundred bucks so 6 days later I get a phone call from the driver his truck broke down in west Texas not to serious a problem and only a delay of 1 to 2 days it is 11 days after loading in Georgia then 3 days laterI get a second call from some other driver I could hardly understand Russian or Ukrainian accent WTF I call the transport shipping office on hold for ever same problem they say truck blew the engine had to switch trucks said my car is fine it arrived 4 days later a total of 23 days from Georgia around 4 pm the date was Monday just before Thanksgiving nearly dark out and raining the driver was typical stereotype blue striped workout clothes sardine breath and 6 foot 6 and well over 300 pounds not the same guy who loaded my car in Georgia the trailer is empty just my Mustang got it unloaded driver hands me the ***le and paper work to endorse I look my car over no damage he left it running my GF hops in drives it down the street and back it is a V8 five speed she knows Mustangs well says all is good I sign off the Russian driver left we quick trip to the local car wash and clean it off park it in the garage next day start going over the car problems discover it has 500 more miles and front and rear tires don't match different brand and the wheels are corroded inside and some pitting on the outer edges same style factory wheels but defiantly not the same that was on the car I purchased yes I looked the car over inch by inch before I bought it in Georgia even took 30 pictures .I called the dealer only to be told not there problem and maybe the sales person wrote down the wrong mileage as I did sign for it as I write this I have a lawyer but still dealing with the shipping company getting nowhere long story over. Always pay extra for a better more reputably shipping company .

Back on subject, I think you're SOL about the clutch. It'll just be someone's word against another.

Is the seller just trying to p*** off a known burnt up clutch?

You will get the dirty end of this stick no matter what. At least you got a 56 Chevy. Be glad it's not worse and move ahead.

I edited your useless post down to what made sense and was actually readable.

I agree with the other guys, have you ever heard of punctuation and paragraphs ?

Or even sentences that don't run on forever ?

Aw, the clutch is nothing, wait till he clips a low over p*** or something else the hits the roof.
All kidding aside, inspect the car very carefully upon receiving it, do not accept a night delivery unless it is in a very well lit parking lot.
Great looking '56 I hope it's all you were hoping it would be!

As transporter horror stories seem to be the norm rather then the exception, I think I'll p*** on ever putting myself through that type of aggravation. If I can't buy something within driving distance of my home, I don't need it. Besides long distance auto sales are always a PITA.

I've never thought of it before, but it would seem damn hard to back a RWD car up a ramp like that. I'll be watching now to see how front and rear wheel drive vehicles are loaded on p***ing transports. Could it be that the transporter was taught to back FWD cars up the ramp and no body bothered to give him a lesson weight distribution and traction? Or did he put the '56 on backward so the hood doesn't blow open?

No idea, I'll be asking him why he loaded it that way when he gets here.

It's a 1956 Chevrolet Model 150 2 door sedan; in my mind, the holy grail of hot rod street cars! At least you don't have to remove the bell-housing to R and R a clutch, they drop out the open bottom. I hear you about how your car was apparently abused, and I have a couple transporter stories of my own; unless you like trying to push a rope uphill, pick another battle. An attorney's not going to be cheap, there's going to be some time involved, and if you do "win", they'd probably want "their" people to do the repairs. Good luck with whatever you decide on. Is this going to be a drive-straight-through-delivery? They usually swap transporters out a couple, three times along routes. It may not be the same transporter when it does arrive. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

i sold a 57 with a 4 sp to a guy in washington state. it took the driver 15 tries to back it up the ramp . the driver wanted to load it over the cab of the truck backwards. the driver said it was easer to unload that way. after that i got to looking at the trucks on the interstate . and most of the cars on top over the cab are backwards.

He will be delivering the car because that's who my work booked the contract with. I work for a used auto sales company so my boss set it all up.
