I've driven a late model to Salina before and still had a good time. Hope it works out..

  2. A couple of Dave Wolk's prior Mercury builds:

  3. Yup, it's me....75lbs ago and a whole different idea of what constituted appropriate shorts. [emoji849] Hair is much the same tho....all Greg Brady. LOL Some of those pics my dad took. The first couple of years I went to Hangin' Dice, my camera was a 110 instamatic but my dad had a 35mm.

  6. Damn! That was a nice trip down memory lane. Ft. Smith was the best show in the nation at the time. My merc is in the background of one of those pics.

That's a '48 Cadillac dash in that Merc...the center section (shiny aluminum bars hanging down) is not stock Cadillac but the rest of the dash is...and FWIW, '48 was the only year GM used that dash...they are rare...!!!

  9. Pretty sure my dad's maroon '37 is just over the hood of the Merc.

My Merc is just over the top of the trunk. Jimmy Herndrick's "55 olds 4 DRHT is over the pass. side spotlight.

Is that a scoop on the side of the car or a shadow if not . Maybe food for thought? [IMG]

  13. [IMG]Rick Chronic's Ford. It was later chopped about 4" and painted red & white.

[IMG]Tom Murray's first iteration of his Olds. Later it had an all chrome big block and was painted a mile deep candy brandywine.

The Nov. 2007 R&C issue had a full spec, 5 page feature on the 56, with the "Wichita Look". The spec sheet provided a pleasant surprise: The mill house is occupied by a Pontiac 400!

Does this drive the blues away? LOL.
Honestly, this is so over-the-top, in your face, tongue in cheek, just for the fun of it that it embodies everything about customizing that made the sixties "The Sixties!". (RIP, Stanley Owsley.)

I saw this several years ago in the basement at Cobo hall, and talked with the builders. Nice guys.
I've forgotten some of the "finer" points, but it has a 354 Hemi, 6 working carbs, and a spear-gun in the gun rack in the back window! Just what every PU truck needs. LOL.

I know this may belong in the "Ugliest Customs" thread, but I'm afraid most people there just wouldn't get the beauty of it, either.:D

These guys were working on a '53 Stude at that time. I wonder how it turned out?

You have to appreciate the work that went into this even though it looks like it crosses boundaries between Kustom and Drag Car. Of particular note are the Wide Whites, the "Freak Show" License Plate and of course, the "Painted White, Fender Well Exhaust" as this was typical 60's! Grooooovy Baby!

Can't remember the builders but lots of construction pics were on the HAMB in the "old" days.

I am not usually a fan of painted grilles but on this car I think it works, kind of from the "less is more" school of thought.

  29. I second George's comment....great weekend Mick! Thanks for hosting us!

Here's a few more customs from Dewey this year:

    IMG_2943.jpg
Real sweet '59 Ford. I loved the gold leaf in the trim insert. Even had the same gold leaf in the fins of the valve covers.

    IMG_2956.jpg
Starbird's recreation of his Tbird. Was pretty neat to get to see that.

    IMG_2970.jpg
This '40 has been around forever. Sporting a fresh coat (or at least fresh since the last time I've seen it) of shiny green.

    IMG_2999.jpg
Another car I was excited to see in person. This Chevy is pretty different, but I dig it.

    IMG_3065.jpg
Really loved this Ford. I caught a couple pics of it as it was pulling out on Saturday, but got a couple nicer ones while he was lined up for awards on Sunday.

    IMG_3073.jpg
Buck's new Merc. He said he's been working on it for years and nearly has it finished.

    IMG_3079.jpg
The Stray Kat hisself back in black. I like the black better than the grey it was last year. My vote is a darker color when it's time for gloss Mick! ;)

Dave, have you a photo of the 59's deck lid? He has more louvers there than he does on the mill house! The louvers were done her in KY, by Brad Starks. The 59 won best custom at Beech Bend, Bowling Green, a few years back!
