  3. I have a 24' x 15' foot garage that got built last summer. 9' ceilings allow for lots of shelving. You can barely walk through it right now, but there's a lot of organization to be done, shelving to be put up, and house stuff from the move still in the garage.

Currently building a little shed on the other side of the house. I have 8' from the house to the lot line. If I build a shed under 108 square feet, I don't need a permit, and I can put it right up to the lot line... So that's what I did. Fits exactly as it should! :D

My garage was once an old chicken coop...paint, framework, a few cheap windows, and used wood panels make a big difference. It's tight at times to be sure, but...all in all, I feel very grateful for my little place to do what I want....to wrench-away on old cars!:D:D:D

  8. There was one like Lippy posted on the North Shore of Oahu (late 90's) with a '41 Willy's gasser pick up in it. Of course, it wasn't for sale, they were gonna "Fix it up some day..." I hate thieves, but damn the sheer waste of that truck with the garage falling down on it made me wanna steal it! The whole thing (garage and truck) disappeared one day, I just hope it got saved by someone else!

    My thoughts:
    1) If you have to move anything to get to or work on something, then the garage IS too small----irregardless of how you feel.

    2) i have a theory that the average person, by the time they turn 40 has amassed enough possessions to fill a football field assuming they haven't thrown anything away or sold anything. So, roughly 58,000 square feet.

My next garage WILL be adequately sized for at least 3 vehicles even though will probably only work on one at a time. However, i'm not sure how to go about the permitting process. Should i hire a lawyer?

    ALERT:
    Lightbulb moment :)

Here's a business idea you can run with (because i don't have my stuff together at the moment and wouldn't have the guts to do it anyways):

A company that custom builds garages, specifically tailored to (rich) car guys.

  11. This is exactly my setup.

I'm building a garage right now 32x26 probably not going to be big enough. I have been funneling all extra money to the garage. So not much progress on my car. I should have it all closed in before cold weather. I will be doing wiring and insulation over the winter. It will be good when done right now I keep tools in the shed out back and work in the front yard. IMG_20160626_185300.jpg IMG_20160626_185204.jpg

  14. Mine is a 2.5 car garage but I stick three cars in it plus all my tools etc. I guess my wife must be a saint because she sort of puts up my toys or ahh projects... I shove the old 911 next to the wall and then scoot the Falcon over next to it. This leaves my wife barely enough room to park the 2012 Mustang in the left over space. The only reason it works is because I made a cart for the Falcon. That makes it easy to move it around and it only takes about 5-10 minutes to move it outside and put it up on jackstands so I can work on it. It's pretty painless. So, either my garage it to small, or I have too much crap. Oh, and by the way, I am that guy that still keep crap in his mom's garage as well... That's where my 67 Mustang project is sitting. My garage is definitely too small....... 100_3826.JPG 100_3828.JPG 100_3829.JPG 100_3859.JPG

  15. Here is the one car garage where Ed Roth built his masterpieces; Outlaw, Bandit, Mysterion. Don't want to hear anyone complain!

My buddies always razz me by saying "I have to go outside to change my mind." Lol!

  20. The Garage is ALWAYS too small. Currently I have a decent sized garage at home, but it is really cramped for car building what with 3 cars and 10 motorcycles plus a ton of equipment in it. 10 years ago I had a 7,000 sq ft garage, and it was too small! We seem to just find a way to fill up the space that is available!

Yep, they are all too small- mine's 42x60, and there's a footpath through the middle that forks to the two far corners...

There is no such thing as garage too big. Kind of like extra money.

  27. haha you're absolutely right. With it pushed up tight against the one wall, I have about a foot to the side, about a foot behind it to the door, and about 6 inches ahead of the bumper. Just big enough!

could I suggest bolting a 2x4 or similar to the floor so the wheels hit the timber before the car hits the wall ..worked for me for years reversing a 71 vet against a boundary wall down hill

  29. The car is on dollies with no motor in it, so it'll be a couple of years before I have to worry about backing it in anywhere. That shed is more for sheltered storage than an actual garage.. But that's a good idea, and something that I'll keep in mind for the future. Thanks for that!
