Projects 1931 Model A Coupe Y-Block Build (Father&Son)

You would be surprised. The sides of a Deuce shell are not perpendicular, and the lens on the directionals is bulbous, so they are quite visible even from directly in front of it. They're just as visible as the usual bullet shaped directionals that are on a lot of hot rods, including mine. Finding a decent looking front turn signal for these things that doesn't look like an afterthought is a challenge. I really can't stand those bullet shaped type, I only have them on my tub because I found a nice OLD pair made by Guide, that match my Guide 903 headlights. I like Nathan's better.

 

That's one thing I like about the Guide 682C, the small light on top. Perfect for signals.

 

Any reason you made a metal insert and then put wood over it instead of just making a wood panel from the start?

 

What year Dodge caravan did that seat come out of? I have looked at a few and they are all too wide but they were all 2000+???

 

Nathan is gone on tour with his band, so I'll answer you guys. He made the guage panel that way to keep it thin. You see the original bead in the dash, around the guage panel? He really likes that and wanted to keep it, and also wanted to make the polished stainless ring to fit inside it, and not stick out past the bead. That's a .050" thick piece of stainless, with a thin walnut veneer on it. Solid wood would have needed to be a lot thicker. Also, he was able to make one pattern and get the guage panel and the ring laser cut to match, with the mounting holes and everything. We have a neighbor who runs a laser cutting facility and he works cheap for friends on a cash / trading favors basis. He even made him a few extras so he can do different finishes and change them out if he wishes.
The seat is from a first generation Dodge caravan, we don't know the exact year. It was a freebie from a friend.

 

All that talent AND he's in a band?

 

Yes, he's been playing guitar since he was 10,and playing in heavy metal bands since he was 13. Got his record contract about four years ago, when he was 16. So sometimes that cuts into his hot rod building time. He really enjoys his band, though,and now he's playing blues as well. His coupe is his main focus, though.

 

Name of the band ?

 

They're LED's and pretty bright, I can't for sure say if they will be useless during the day time yet or not. But you can see them looking at it straight on

Death Of An Era, I'll warn you, it's very heavy hahah

 

We were trying to come up with some cool ideas for an overflow bottle so we thought an old antique glass bottle would be cool. My grandfather found me this bottle at an antique mall, Old Quaker whiskey bottle. I can't remember the year of the bottle, I'm not home right now otherwise I would look at the bottle cap. When I find out I will let you guys know! This was tricky to figure out how to mount, my dad helped a lot with coming up with how to mount it, I made everything. Very happy with how it came out.

I like that overflow mount. I just might think of adding some rubber isolation. And swapping that Allen head out for a flat head screw, but that's a small detail.

The rubber isolation is a good idea, however the swapping out of the Allen bolts for flat head screws is just over the top to the point of being ridiculous.

 

I prefer Allen head fasteners. Working in a injection mold maintenance shop spoiled me. They are mechanic friendly as opposed to slotted screws and of higher strength.

 

This isn't the final assembly. I'm sure that was just the first 10-32 flat head he found. It will get a phillips or slotted , domed SS screw later, and some channel tape so it doesn't rattle.

Thanks guys! Like my dad said, this isn't final assembly, a lot of the screws/ bolts I've used on the car were just bolts I found in the shop that worked

 

Made a bracket for the switch to the air bags, it's part of one of the seat legs.

 

Made an L bracket for the fuse panel and mounted it to the floor board right under the seat for easy access

Dig the car and the band (checked it out on youtube)...it's a actually a little lighter sounding than what I crank out in the garage, ha! I think we are the minority of people on here that like extreme metal. Side note, I went to high school with Danny from Suicide Silence, finally got to see them live when they rolled through Oakland with Korn.
