Wanting an opinion on how much this 56 is worth v8,running good, auto, minimal rust.. Sent from my SM-N920V using H.A.M.B. mobile app
check completed listings on e-bay for similar vehicles - minimal rust means different things to different people - to some it is sheet mental pop rivited over rotted floors and stuffed with bondo so no rust shjows - to others its a completely original car with a little surface rust and a hole the size of a dime in one quarter.......BIG DIFFERENCE.....and don't kid yourself, as rediculous as it sounds, some people are getting big money for tri-five four doors......didn't 7 window larry recently buy and sell a nice 55 four door? ask him......
Value has a whole lot to do with the location. You are going to get estimates all over the board on here. Better to check locally. Like ididntdoit1960 said, check what sold locally on ebay.
People who don't want a 4 door just make them cheaper for those of us who like them. '56s are less popular than '55s and '57s, that just makes '56s a little cheaper for people who like them. What brings a good price in one part of the country is hard to give away in another part of the country. As others have said, see what comparable vehicles are bringing in your part of the country, that's really all you can go by. Remember if it's in your neck of the woods, you have to spend less to transport it, which means you can afford to give a little more for a desirable car that is close by. It's a good deal if the seller thinks he got a good price and the buyer thinks he got a bargain. a
If it's drive-it-home roadworthy, around here in Wisconsin, you could ask $6995 for that and expect to get around $6K. Fully driveable old cars are in short supply around here. If it's running but needs brakes/exhaust/radiator/wiring and/or anything else to be ready to drive, more like $3500, even if the things it needs are relatively cheap. 4 doors aren't real popular in general, but 4 doors the 55-60 era are probably the easiest to sell, and the best money comes from stuff people can get in and drive. They sell to the entry level car enthusiast, either who haven't had an old car before and want to get into it, or who have some other project that isn't finished and they want a driver for the summer.
I would grind those tires into wide whitewalls, add some full wheel covers and replace that mirror with a period appropriate one, that would also help sell it.
As 4 doors go, that's a fairly desirable one. Looks decent enough & complete, V-8 is a plus. 4 doors are a hard sell, no matter what that fans say. Driver ready, I'd venture $5-7K tops around here, fans not withstanding. Not being a moredoor person, it'd have to be $3-4K to get my attention.
Well reason I ask is because it was offered to me as trade for my daily driven 01 bmw325i wagon, the Wagon I'd say is worth to the right buyer around 5k because it does have upgraded suspension, wheels,it's nice but it's time for a change, I do have another Truck I can use daily I figure I could fix this 56 up and sell it to get another daily American this time, I sold my 87 El camino to get this Wagon because at the time I needed a wagon, and there are no cool wagons that are american made except for the 50s,60,some 70s, and no caprice,Roadmaster are not my cup of tea.. if its helpful, I would rather daily the 56 over a bmw wagon. lot of times, when someones trying to trade a cl***ic car for a modern one, it needs a big repair of some kind that they don't want to do...
Fix it up and sell it.you would put in more than you'd ever get out of it.if you want to fix something to flip pu a more desirable two door.or another car all together.
I'd take the trade if the car is truly up to snuff mechanically (like Squablow mentioned) and the rust isn't a disaster. Do a compression check on the "spray can rebuild". The 56 will hold/gain value going forward while the BMW will sink. the 56 will get you into cruise night.
I think it's pretty even as trading Goes, providing turn key, short of that the BMW is a Killer daily! If it was a 55/57 definitely!Clearly just my opinion...
5k would be a steal for that 56, then again I'm out in the Atlantic Ocean on a rock. I think it would be a good candidate for a swap from four to two door.
It's worth whatever the price is, IF it's worth that price to you. I believe the car Hobby is about P***ion, so unless you are into buying and selling for profit and this ride trips your trigger, go for it. Tri 5's bring good $$$ and have noticed, even 4 doors are coming up in $$$. The only thing that matters is what YOU want. Good Luck on what ever you decide.
Well I don't like the color of it or the white letter tires, if you'll take a majic marker to the tires and paint it a different color I would go in the 4-6K range on it. A lot depends on what has been done to the mill a hot one is worth mire to me than a stock target motor painted orange.
