  1. ...........Look real similar don't they. I'm sure that over there they used up parts just like they did here so maybe they are in fact some sort of factory part.

the more I look at those side vents, the more I like them. promotes heat removal from engine bay, something '40s need since the inner fender panels have no louvers like earlier years but without the issue of "drippage" from louvers.

Old school '40 racecar, when you hooked a tow bar to your coupe, wrote "car in tow" on the back window with white shoe polish, and off to the drags you went. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt.

The burgundy coupe with skirts, sombrero Caddy caps, and Desoto bumpers with a slightly low in the back stance is what I remember as the epitome of cool in my teenage years.
    Love it!

  11. A GREAT DAY TODAY !!! My good friend Pat, got his 40 in 1957. He drove it for one year. He then decided to rebuild it. He took it off the road and has been working on it on and off since then. Today he took it for her maiden voyage. Don't get me wrong, He has built lots of great cars and trucks over the years. but the 40 just never got finished. That is until now. If a picture is worth a 1000 words, then I will post some that 018.jpg 015.jpg I took Today Ron...

RoyBoy archive photo from 2012, makes me wish to be 17 and cool just one more time! Cruising Main Street in Rhinebeck, NY past Schemmerhorn's Drugstore where the girls congregated at the soda fountain after school (1960 please Mr. Peabody, dial it in on your wayback machine).

In 1960 if you were without Mooneyes somewhere on your car you were driving"Daddy's "
car, soon to be followed by the "Mr. Horsepower" decal on your quarter window where I come from. ;)

i.rant, I remember pestering Joey at Ulster Speed to sell me the small cast aluminum Mooneyes plaque he got as a dealer. That was around '60-'61/ Don't think back then they were for sale to anyone like they are today. My first hot rod was a '47 Ford tudor with a 283" and I had that plaque screwed to my firewall.

  28. That's a shot from in front of the Tom Mix museum, in Dewey, OK. If you ever plan a cross country trip in your '40 coupe, @olcurmdgeon, make sure to time it when the Stray Kat 500 is happening. Fun event and a great bunch of folks!
