Can someone show me what my '55 Packard would look like with '55 Cadillac headlights? I tried to do it myself but I don't have the skills to import pieces of other pictures into my pictures and make it look right.

I've been driving this car for about a year now and I really like it, it's got a nice hardtop roofline and the best taillights of the 1950's, but the front is odd looking to me, and I think it's the headlights.

I'm open to suggestions if the Caddy lights don't look right, maybe '55 Chevy? It's gotta be a light that has some sheetmetal above and on either side of it, the fenders are pretty wide at the headlight area. If I do it, I think I'd also shave the Clipper script from the hood and remove the ship's wheel from the grille (but I like the hood ornament and I'd like to keep the bumper and grille, or at least the grille surround since it's integral to the side trim.

I took a few different angles so hopefully one will be easier to work with, I don't need to see it from all angles, I'm just posting the three for convenience.

This is as close as I could get, but I can't get the colors right and I think the angles are off a bit too. Maybe someone can clean it up for me? I think it could look really great though.

I apologize for crowding up this page with the same pics slightly tweaked but now I tried it just with the shave and painted the headlight inserts and I think this might be the way to go, but I'm still interested in thoughts or options by the stylists here.

Here's a thought: I cleaned up the lines, removed some clutter, lowered it, painted the backend and added a Buick grille.

That really looks good. I had wondered what it would look like without the rear quarter trims. Would require a lot more paint work but it really looks nice. And as much as I hate to admit it, it's a lot better looking without the hood ornament. It's such a cool ornament, but seeing it without, the car doesn't need it.

Same with the scripts on the front fenders. I like this plan.

  18. I like the two tone and color scheme as is...I tried 57 Chevy headlight assemblies which look like they might be a pretty easy install .I think cleaning up the front as much as possible and getting rid of the all horizontal lined grill would really gives it a sharp look and you'll be good to go.

I like that too! I have some '57 headlight bezels and I held one up to the car, would take some cutting but looks like it would go on there. I also had a '55 bezel and with the Packard bezel off, it'll actually bolt on, but leaves a gap along the top and sits in really deep. Still, with some fairly simple mods to the fender it'll work.

I've also got a '60 Oldsmobile grille which I think could work as a horizontal replacement if I go that far. Thanks for the pic.

  23. One other thought is the aftermarket frenched headlight kit..It might take a bit of work though but it doesn't look too bad

56 Olds would be my choice but they all look better than stock..

The Olds lights are my favorite single 7" headlight design of the 50's but if you hold one up to the car, the front of the fender is way too wide, you'd have to taper the fender down like 2" on either side to make them fit.

I'll take a picture with the '55 Chevy bezel on the car, it bolts right on. It'll involve some reduction in the depth of the hooded headlight part and a filler above the light but it really works.

It sure is nice to get a visualization of this stuff before cutting into it though.

IMHO, this is all the car really needs. And while the Buick grille may look great, it would also look good with the stock grille (medallion included) and headlight doors.
Oh! And a nice bullet in the center of those beautiful Packard wheelcovers!
