  1. Kids playing on an abandoned car. Amsterdam, 1960s. Any idea what car that is?

I couldn't see the grille for the ornament sitting on top of it!

With new laws increasing minimum wage, maybe we will see this idea dusted off and put back into play. LA-track-restaurant-2.jpg LA-track-restaurant-1.jpg

If I remember correctly, that is/was a HAMBers car. The story is on here somewhere if it's the one I'm thinking of. They were driving home after a show and the driver fell asleep. I think the passenger was hurt pretty bad. I think it was the first outing for the car. Don't quote me on the details though. It was awhile back.

Those were two staples when I was growing up. Not in Lancaster though but Diamond Bar. Alpha Beta for groceries and the next door to Thriftys for an ice cream cone.

My dad would go to Builders Emporium or Ole's on the weekend. Pile in the bed of his Jimmy and off we'd go to the hardware store. Can't remember where they were now. Rowland Heights or City of Industry? Been too long.

I also remember going to Alta Dena Dairy to get fresh (and I mean FRESH) manure. I didn't ride in the back on those trips!

  14. Yep.... Right after it won the trophy for best custom.

That truck did a lot of damage and the car was cannibalized by the owner to build another.

  15. Autobahn?

  16. No, this was at that time a new highway between the cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht, the Netherlands, 1953.

It's a '46-8 Lincoln Continental coupe. I hope someone rescued it eventually!

  19. Thanks for the update. Looks like it was an enjoyable drive back then, but I bet it's quite crowded today.

Looks like they have installed some "damn I missed the turn" backup strips.
