Doesnt sound like you really want to trade, if you havent already. If that beamer is truly worth the 5k (I dont know?)and you are only looking to sell the 56 anyway, I cant see what you would be gaining except more of a h***le. Also Is that grey primer, thats wet on the 56 or shiney paint? I can kind of see your temptation but like the old saying goes, " apples to oranges."
I have a Jetta wagon now and previously a Mercedes E-cl*** wagon and there's a pretty good following for the late model German wagons so I don't doubt for a second that yours is worth 5 or 6K, it looks clean. And that's about what this '56 would sell for (again, ***uming it's fully roadworthy as-is, otherwise no). If you want to do a straight up trade just to have a 50's car to play with for a while, I'd say it's fair, but it's not a money maker. And putting a bunch of effort into the '56 is not going to make it much more valuable. The sweet spot for 4 doors is entry level priced drivers and it's pretty much at that level now, besides maybe the tires/caps and some detailing. I could go either way on this one.
A lot depends on your application of Daily Driver. It your commute is 5 miles, go for it. If it is 35 miles, in hot sweaty, humid weather, stop and go that takes an hour, with lots of *******s on the road, I'd rather drive the BMW. Perspective my man
Man I wish I had the answer for that.I hope you dont have to deal with the dead beats Ive had to deal with selling my camper!!! Been on both sides of the table so it would depend on where Iam sitting I guess.
Sadly that car is at the bottom of the tri-5 scrotum pole. Some love a 56, most "want" a 55 or 57. Chrome and interior are the 2 most expensive things the average car guy can't do at home, also in the top 3 most expensive jobs required. That back door doesn't fit well at the bottom. Was that part of the rust issue? She looks rode hard and put up wet so were it my deal to make, give me the 56 and $2K as a start. I don't think it's worth more than about $3,500 as it sits now.
Amen. I would drive a '56 moredoor any day of the week. Sure it's not as "cool" as a 2-door, but I stopped being cool long ago. Judging by the local market, people seem to want $7-8k and up for any Tri-5 in decent shape.
I'm with Tony above. Not the HAMB friendly answer but I personally would rather drive the Bemmer then a four door anything sedan.
Beamer = Chick Magnet ( BUT not HAMB friendly) 4 door Chevy?? Kind of HAMB friendly ( if you squint) but not really the choice of 98% of people polled in an independent study Have a latte, and drive the BMW ( I never thought I'd say that!)
If you get a 4 door you may be happy for a while but when it wears off you are stuck with it because you never really wanted it in the first place, and neither does anybody else. Just my $.02
There's a whole bunch of Boomers coming along who are likely to discover the joys and ease of being able to get into the back seat of a moredoor, unlike contorting their arthritis riddled bodies to climb over the front seat of a two door. Oh wait, is arthritis traditional?
That's odd, the BMW is clearly ALSO a four door.... Me, I've quoted repairs for BMW's. Give me the '56 NOW!!! Cosmo
As a hot rod and BMW guy myself I'd say keep the Beemer. 4 door 50s cars turn my stomach. Just one mans opinion
Yes, I saw the BMW was a four door but the key word in my post was "sedan". While I don't care for four door sedans I am fond of wagons whether 2 or 4 door. Will agree on the repair cost BMW v/s 56 Chevy.
