Mac Bowman, Beaverton Oregon AA/A. 348/409. Mac was close friends with Bob Tindle, Bob had Mac take the "Orange Crate" on the National Show Tour in the early 60's. Mac was also partnered in "The Northwind" Fueler, Floyd, Albrich and Bowman. He painted his coupe orange, to match Tindle's famous sedan. He ran Drag Boats, later on.

The gold Willys, belonged to Ed Smith of Vancouver, it was Pontiac powered. Smith, Smeds and Greek, was lettered on the side. The Exhaust Specialties Willys is the same car, after Chuck Tiller bought it and ran a high RPM SBC. The GM Auto Sales Willys is still around, it belongs to a member on here !

I met Ed Smith during my first trip to the US while I was doing the 1984 summer northwest match race tour with Gary Densham. Ed later came to Australia and stayed with me in Adelaide for a while.

  10. "I suppose you'd like to know what happened to Bill Ireland's Thunderbolt after he took delivery of a new A/FX Mustang. Here it is with a new orange paint job, parked next to the Musgrave T-bolt at Mission. The ex-Ireland car was owned by Gary Wanless and sponsored by McLennan Motors in New Westminster, BC. Not too much later, mid-66 I'd say, out came the sawzall for the full "funny" treatment."

  11. "If you look closely at the lettering on the rear door of this '27 T "tub," you can make out "Slo-Poks" which is decent clue that this is Jack Coonrod. In '59, it set the C/SR record with a flathead, then was switched to an Olds, then a Chrysler, and then a blown 392 Chrysler, with which it held the A/SR record."

  12. "Here are a couple shots of Jerry (pre-King) Ruth in his first fueler at Arlington. JR bought it turnkey from Gene Adams, and over time made it better. He nicknamed it "Silver Dollar" because it won so much. I always thought the red Stude Lark tow/push truck was very cool. Photos by Rich Carlson"

  13. "Here's a nice comparison -- the blown 348 Puyallup roadster BB/A vs the later version with an injected 331ci sbChevy, a lot of bright work and purple metalflake as a B/A for the Cutler Bros. Photos by Rich Adair"

  14. "Art Whipple bought Richard Schroeder's Fletcher-built 67/68 Camaro, a body shop turned it into a '69 with a few nice custom touches and laid on a really showy rainbow paint job, and got ready to climb in. But first, he figured he'd ask his buddy Ed "the Ace" McCulloch to make sure it went straight. OK, they'd never run a Chevy engine and Ed had never driven a suspended funny car, so how'd they do? Ran low ET and won their debut event at Woodburn! Guess who suddenly became the driver? Here Ace puts a gate job on Bob Bedell's Chevy-powered Camaro at Woodburn."
My teenage self was at Woodburn for this debut!
