Must have been Sunday, Saturday the end balloons were straight up. Good Luck in June is harder cause of the hotter weather. We are patrol 9 on the return road side all day.

  4. We were number 24 starting position, on Saturday. No wind at the start, but there was a head wind, that started somewhere around the half way mark. Just a short while later, there was a tail wind aka, El Mirage horse power. Which later got so bad, we couldn't even see where we were going, when we were leaving

Nice documentation on the history of this car. I knew none of this, but did know about Jim Kitchen's roadster for many years. A funny bit that I can add: Sometime in the Late '70's- Mid '80's I was headed to El Mirage, creeping along the old rutted access road on the East side of the lake. I see this white roadster coming up behind me, it's got a cage on it! So I move over to the right as far as I can get, and the Kitchen roadster passes me on the left. Gives me a wave and proceeds onto the lake. Now I don't know if he drove it up the Cajon Pass or was using El Mirage Rd. as a warm up area but I had to laugh. Not many caged injected cars actually get street driven, kind of a throw back to the old days. Anyway I had to admire a real hot rod being driven by a real hot rodder.

This is a Great Hot Rod Shot!!!! Im so digging on the Cyclone Quickie, Which stated in the SRM article had been in since the late 40's. (Looks like an early one).
In looking over this thread, I was only wishing of an overhead shot of the Ford 6 Engine with the speed equip. Was wondering if it was our Marine versions. I'm glad to read that the Eppard Bros. had it and so many other great "Stewards Of Hot Rod History" Thank you Jim for having the vision/dreams to continue it's racing legacy and J. Fishbeck for posting all of this great stuff.
    I'm staying tuned!!!!

  7. Good to hear from you Kevin. I never did see Johnny G, this last May meet.

I never forget how fortunate I am to be involved with the car and the guys I'm able to call my friends, that keep this thing going. We'll be up at ElMir, in June. I always look forward to seeing everybody there.

Knock, knock, knocking on the Dirty Two Club Door,,,,,.,.

  10. It's amazing how much more hp we'd need, to hit the 200 mark, at ElMir. But the thought does make me smile!

Wow JF 190 mph...I can't help but chuckle a bit the ole hotrod of mine has a few issues in the driveline to iron out. It feels like its going to rattle apart around 55mph and does the odd death wobble thing depending on shitty road surfaces around 20 to 25mph...but yeah that must be surreal and its been going fast like that most of its mid to later years. Love that pic...that is priceless...

  12. I was down on the big end on Saturday morning, collecting the chute, after our run. The world's fastest HotRod, the 911 roadster, was coming off a 255mph pass. After it slowed and started making the left turn, towards the return road.. it went into a caster wobble. But I tell you what, it goes straight, really well! 304mph at Bonneville and 277mph at ElMir, during last years November meet. The fastest a roadster has ever gone, up there. It weights 6,000lbs, by the way

Our roadster only weights around 3500lbs, must be why we are so much slower:)

  14. Our fearless leader, (Kitchen) added ballast to the rear of ol' Stan. So we're hoping for some different results this month.

You may need the tail wind... Temp could be easing up into the 90's. May, October, and November are the good months. Good luck.

  16. Hopefully it'll still be pretty cool, Sunday morning. AND we'll take all the El Mirage hp, we can get!

Good luck. And,thank you for the car's stewardship. There's a lot of history there and a ton of good karma, too. :)

  18. Any an every person, with any interest in Landspeed racing, should make their way to the dry lakes. It's an amazing experience. Really unexplainable. Especially, Bonneville!

  22. A little tail wind, would've helped. But on the positive side, the cool breeze was nice!

Sitting at return road 9 patrol all day we saw the wind change a lot after 12:00pm. If they could have caught it just right they may gotten the record....The fault lies totally in Stan B. He set the record too high. ;)

  24. With hopes of running at Bonneville, we might be back to El Mir in October. More than likely November. Even though, we'll be giving up our points/starting position.

  27. A plane ticket, would well be worth the price of admission. Anybody who's passionate about HotRods, should definitely come and check out landspeed racing, at least once. We should be running El Mirage, in November. Possibly the October meet, also. I'll keep the updates, updated.

  29. So the roadster decided to dance twice, with the rear end really swinging out. So Willie had to pedal it, while not wanting to, which put him thru the lights @183.57 on Stans own 193.93 c/str El Mirage record

image.jpeg image.jpeg I ran .168 mph under the record in my roadster. Even thou I didn't feel it the print out said a 5 mph wind out of the NE and I ran at 12:25 pm. I'm going back in November, maybe I'll get it.
