Does anybody know if 14 wheels will fit using 2 inch dropped spindles? I have 14 inch disc brake steelies with wide whites. I don't want to have to buy new tires so I'd like to run the 14's. Also, I have heard that the drop spindles aren't custom, they are actually just stock spindles from a different car. Anybody know what car they are from?
I am running 14 inch wheels with disk brakes on my 55 chevy and 2 inch drop spindels if you don't rub a little your not low enough
That's good news! What brand spindles did you use? Where did you get them? Do you know what the calipers, rotors and bearings are from? Thanks for the reply!
It's not so much about the hardware. It's more about the wheel's. 14" wheel's that are made for disc brakes have larger diameter centers. The question now would be. Are you running a stock steel type wheel with wheel cover's ?
I have a set of 14 in rims off of a 60 era Chevy wagon and they fit fine with the 2 inch drop spindles and 2 inch drop springs. But I did have a issue with the spindle block (block meaning the casting where the ball joints bolt on) hitting the upper A arm, reducing the turning radius. Had to take off about 1/8 inch per side.
I'm running a 2" drop spindle and I'm running 14's with no problems. I have front discs, not sure what kind of brakes though.
Just for sh**'s and giggles. Try finding an 80's era S-10 or Astro Van 14" wheel that someone can lone you to see how it fit's compared to what you have now. Edit, To late now but I'll leave it up just the same as the wheel above may help other's. Coconuts, I thought this was a reply by the OP. Sorry for the confusion.
I have 14" Americans on my 57, it has Heidts dropped spindles and 2" shorter springs, fits fine. Running S-10 disc brakes
I running 2" drop spindles and springs from Cl***ic Performance Parts on my 55, pulled rotors and calipers from a yard off an early 80's Monte Carlo. I believe S-10s of the same era would of worked also. Originally ran 14x6 Rallys on front and had to grind a little off the corner of the caliber as it rubbed on the rim, however I'm running 15s now.
The wheels I am using now are stock GM 14x6 steel wheels. I want to get a set of chrome steel wheels but want to keep using 14s because my tires are like new.
Let me be clear. I'm not saying not to use a 14" wheel. What I am saying is. Not all GM 14" wheel's are the same. Please refer to post #7 where I thought I was quoting you.
