Monday night at the annual Bethany Baptist Car Show and Picnic. My kind of event, come and go as you want to, good food, and we got to visit with some car buddies I haven't seen in quite some time. More late models than hot rods which goes with the older crowd I guess. Back in the 60's I went to a state two year auto tech college, Morrisville Ag and Tech, in upstate NY. All the guys in Auto Tech were rabid hot rodders but over the years a lot of the enthusiasm waned. Only a few us us, now in our 70s, kept the flame alive. I guess careers, family, health and all change some guy's perspective. If they do play with cars, it might be a restored muscle car or an antique stocker. Thats why I love the HAMB, everyone is of the same general mindset, growing old but not "growing up".

 

I love those flames! Someday when I get the time & $ my '40 coupe will have a set, Did you do them or was it done by a local NH painter?

Appreciate the compliment. The missus and I are so glad we decided to do it. Done by a NH striper/sign guy named Dennis Day (http://ddaydesigns.blogspot.com/) who was a great guy to work with. We used Wilson & Steely's shop in Athol, MA to do the clear over them. Helps that their painter is Dennis's brother. Dennis is an old school, have brushes will come to you type guy. Gonna be a busy weekend for me so some extra posts for today to cover Sat and Sun.

 

Some time this afternoon between chores. This time the subject is flames, one near and dear to my heart. Second picture was the one I gave the striper for inspiration.
Fifth one is iconic magazine shot that shows up on the HAMB frequently.

 

I love this earlier style of flames on a '40, Does anyone have a side shot of this car? or any other car with this style flames. I have been dreaming of these flames for a while now.

 

Seems like I've heard those referred to as "horse hair" flames 'cause they resemble a horse's mane trailing in the wind.

 

Then again, maybe these would be "horse hair' flames.

I don't recall ever seeing this 40 before, and I have been looking at 40's for a LONG time. Not a fan of custom 40's but I like this one.
